Bowel cancer at 34 and Liver lesions (secondary and primary)

Hello my wife was diagnosed with bowel cancer last wednesday and operated on the following day.

She has had several scans PET,CT and MRI to date.

We were warned that there was shadowing on the liver and told that they were lesions, my wife was discharged 4-5 days after surgery and had a shock when she read the scan results on her discharge papers.

MRI shows hypervascular metastases and other primary liver tumours such as fibrogalandular HCC to lobes 8/5 of the liver.

i have scared myself witless looking at the internet regarding treatments and terminology .

i gather that she has got stage 4 cancer but we are waiting for the biopsy of the upper colon to come back and a meeting regarding the future course of action in 2 weeks.

Has anyone on here been down this road before ?

many thanks kevin

  • Hi Kevin, welcome to the forum, but sorry for the reason you are here. I'm sure it must have been a real shock to read the report, especially if none of this was discussed with your wife and you, prior to her discharge from hospital. I would suggest that someone owes her an explanation of what they know now, and what further plans are for her treatment. Certainly getting a cancer diagnosis is a real shock at any time, but reading it on a report with no prior discussion is very disrespectful to say the least. This would require a phone call to either her family doctor, or whoever did her surgery, and insist on an apt. to further discuss it.

As far as reading about this on the internet, I would strongly suggest you not do that. That information is not reliable and not based on sound research. There is information on this site that is based on reliable research that you can read up on her particular issues. However, your best source of information should come from her treating doctors to get a clear idea of what exactly is going on with her.

I'm so sorry this has happened to her and you in such an uncaring manner. Please come back on to the forum and let us know how things go for her. Also, if you need clarification on any medical reports, you can contact the nurses at the number at the bottom of this page during business hours, or you can post questions in the section, "Ask the Nurses" and one of the nurses on this site will respond.

Take care to you and your wife.
