tumor in tonsils and pushed through tongue help

can anyone give me some advice and information on a diagnosis of a tumor that started on the tonsils and has pushed up through the tongue, been told it is untreatable but they say they need to get the swelling down on the tongue?

  • Hello Andie,

A huge welcome to our forum!

Well, you have come to the right place to talk about tonsil and tongue cancer as we have a very popular thread with many people in there who have had tongue cancer and I am sure you will have a lot to say to one another. Some of them also had a tumour that started on the tonsils and pushed through the tongue. So have a read of Nicola2209's thread here. You will see they are a great bunch! We also have some information on tonsil cancer here and on tongue cancer here.

What I will do too is post a message on their thread to let them know about your post so hopefully someone will be along soon to share their story with you.

  • Hi Andie,

Sorry to have to welcome you to this club.  My cancer was just in the tongue and lymphe nodes

so I can't comment on one starting in the tonsils. My surgeon was a professor and one of the top

two men in France, (where I live). I had been misdiagnosed over a period of 8 months so my cancer was well advanced. He said I could go home with a supply of morphine and would last perhaps six months, or have a large Op. where they would remove 60% of my tongue. This had a 50% chance of giving me another 5 years. I would not be able to eat/drink or speak.  That was 8 years ago and I can speak a little (A bit like the village idiot) but  sure enjoy life.

Have you asked for a second opinion?  I find it very hard to believe that your cancer is untreatable. if you have to have what i did (ie lose the ability to eat and drink) then do it. I am 79 and generally in good shape. I play golf , fish and enjoy jogging to stay fit.

    Best wishes

    Colin

PS We are not always aware of new threads here, so aplogise for a late reply. I have spent the last 3 days having an op. to remove the lump left on my throat by my cancer op.
