dcsi cancer just diagnosed

Hi i just got diagnosed last week and was told today that because it is so wide spread i needed a mastectomy which is booked forcthe 10july ..i feel numb..mainly because i have yearly mamograms and my last one was november and they said there were loads of calcification but it didnt look cancerous but they didnt check and now im having my bust removed. I guess im just scared when iv seen pictures of a removed breast i wonder if i can look at myself the same ....and yes i know that sound vain but i worry about my husband looking at me the same as well

  • Hi Shirley, I'm so sorry you are facing this cancer and have to lose your breast. I can understand your concern about that and your worry about your husband's reaction to it. Has he said anything at this point to you about it? Perhaps it is bothering you more than him? I would think he would rather have you alive than have you lose your breast. Certainly, it is very traumatic to be diagnosed with cancer, but then to face this body altering surgery adds to that trauma. My neice, who is about 50, recently lost her breast to cancer and it was a struggle for her as well, but both she and her husband said they were glad that she didn't lose her life. I think once the shock of hearing this news settles down, you and your husband will be in a better frame of mind and hopefully, will be able to deal with its' aftermath.

Come on to the forum and let us know how you get along. Also, there are others on here who have been through your experience and hopefully, someone will respond who can relate. You will find people on here very supportive, so don't hesitate to come back for support.

    Take care.

    Lorraine

  • Hi Shirley

Im sorry to hear what you are going through. I hwave recently been diagonoised with a rare form of cancer and there is no treatment except palliative chemo. I know this probably is no help to  you but try and stay positive and I agree with Lorriaines post hopefully this will cure the cancer and you will not lose your life. Your husband will love you no matter what way you look and Im sure you will still be beautiful. Good luck x
