breast cancer diagnosis

I had breast implants last November after losing a lot of weight due to my diabetes medication. Loved the results but on my second consultation with my surgeon I mentioned a small lump that had appeared in my right breast.

Rapid Access Breast Clinic, mammograms, needle biopsy then I'm told I have stage 1 breast cancer. Had a wide local exision and axillary surgery just over 2 weeks ago. I'm now told I have stage 2 ductal cancer.

I'm due to see an oncologist on 2nd of June to discuss chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It's all happened so fast I feel like I've got on a bus and can't get off. I'm not sure how to feel, think I've gone into denial. Apart from the effects of the surgery I feel perfectly healthy. How do other people feel?

  • Hello Merle, welcome to the forum, but sorry for the reason you are here. I don't have breast cancer, so can't relate to your specific cancer; I have other cancers though, so certainly can understand the shock of receiving a cancer diagnosis. Not everyone who is diagnosed will be, or feel ill, especially early on. The shock of being told you have cancer can take a while to sink in, but in most cases, your choices depend on what your treatment team is recommending, and what you decide, after you have been given all of your options. Probably, if I was to give you any advice at all, I would suggest you explore the information on breast cancer on this site so you can educate yourself about it, and become somewhat familiar with the terms used when you have your consult with your medical team. I know this is a difficult time for you and I do hope you have family/friends around you for support. People on this forum are very caring and supportive as well and I'm sure someone will be along shortly to respond to your post. My response will bump you to the front where it can be seen easily.

Take care of yourself and come back on here to let us know how you are getting along.

    Sending you hugs.

  • Hi Merie.

Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear that they have changed the Cancer to stage 2. Mine was found

At a mammogram middle of February Ductal grade 2. But after my wide local excision and sentinel

Lymph node biopsy mine was graded down to l. And because it had not gone into the lymph nodes

And was only 12mm the Oncologist decided I only needed tablets for five years. Which was a shock

I'm doing ok. Although I have been up to the Hospital today for a bone scan as I still have discomfort

In my shoulder and neck. So waiting for my results on that. I think you do feel your on a bus and

When your waiting for appointments it gets frustrating. It will soon be the 2nd June and once you have

Your care plan I'm sure you will feel a bit better. Let us know how you get on on Tuesday. Sending you

  • Thank you for your support. Apart from being very tired and a couple of scars

I have no other symptoms at all. Feel a bit of a fraud!

Let's get my next appointment over then we will know what comes next.

It's nice to talk to someone about this without worrying that I'm going to upset them.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Merie
