If anybody out there has experienced this surgery I would be grateful for any information and advice that could possibly put my mind at rest.

Cheers G. Pops.

  • Hi

My son had a kidney removed via the keyhole method, when he was ten, he had the operation one day at the children's hospital in Newcastle and the next day came home! I know he was quite fit and well but because of the keyhole surgery he recovered very quickly compared to traditional surgery, he has 3 tiny scars instead of a big scar from his back to his front so that to is a positive, he is now well with his one kidney and has no more water infections.

It may not be relevant but the main thing is he recovered quickly.

    Hope it goes well. X

  • HI, thank you for taking the time to reply and yes I do find your words encouraging, although I am getting on in years this is the first time I have had hospital treatment ( I do consider myself lucky ) so this procedure may not be as bad as I had first thought, I am so glad your son is doing well and to go through a kidney removal at that age please tell him I think he was really brave.

thank you for your wishes,  G.Pops

  • Hi G  Pops.l

I have had left lobe of my liver removed and I am doing fine.

My brother-in-law had a kidney removed over thirty years ago,and is perfectly fine .he has big scar on his left side, but if you are having keyhole you will hardly see the scar,we play golf and go for a gentle jog once a week, you don't say how old you are,but my brother-in-law is sixty three,so be positive and upbeat and I am sure all will be ok.

All the best for the future.

    Alan

  • Hi G. Pops

I had my left kidney removed in September 2014 via keyhole surgery.  I have been absolutely fine since the operation.  I was only in hospital 3 days  felt a bit stiff and sore for a week after, but apart from that I have felt great! I even flew on holiday 4 weeks after.  all I have to show for it are 3 small scars.

Thank you for your good wishes G. Pops.
