Eye Cancer - first check up this morning.

Hi everyone,

As some of you know I had my op to remove the tumour on Sept 9th at the wonderful Liverpool Ocular Oncology dept.

Today I went to my local hospital at Shrewsbury, to have a follow up re: bleeds, retina problems etc. All went as well as it could have gone so far, no bleeding in the eye, and the retina is still fine.

Phew ... I didn't sleep too well last night as panic started to set in a bit, but I'm now feeling alot better. Off to Liverpool on 16th October for them to have a look, but so far so good.

Still very blurry in that eye but I can make out shapes and recognise big things.

Hugs and thanks to you all for your brilliant support.

  • Hi Carolyn, so good to read your post this morning, and so glad things went well for you with your operation. I know you were very anxious about it, and wouldn't we all be, but it looks like you're on the mend. Take care and give yourself lots of time to recover. Keep us posted on your progress with your follow-up.

    Lorraine   Hugs.

  • Hi Carolyn,

So glad your appointment went well today. I was interested to see that your local hospital is Shrewsbury- that is my hometown (sadly, no longer live there, but my family do!)

Have you been told how much your sight will improve over the coming weeks? Do you have to keep the eye covered at this stage?

I hope you manage to get a better night's sleep tonight! Keep up the good recovery!

    Hugs to you, Jo x

  • Thanks Lorraine, great to see you again

  • Hi Jo, thanks for your message

Yes, been is South Shropshire for about 9 years now.

My sight should improve over the coming weeks/months, I'm just glad to still have my left eye as there was a chance it would have to be removed while they were operating, so it still being there is a bonus. I had decided if it had to come out I would take the nickname Columbo!

I have to put drops and cream in 4 times a day, and have an eye shield at night, which I am going to use for another week and then leave it off if I feel confident (I should do as I fall asleep on the settee without it!!)

It still wants to be closed most of the time, and I'm not forcing it to open at this stage, each day I can open it slightly wider, but I'm figuring, let the eye decide what it wants to do!

  • Hi Carolyn, just wondering how you are going now, You are in my thoughts Kathy xx
  • Hi Kathy, lovely to hear from you and thank you so much for thinking of me. I am doing really well, my vision in my eye is currently about 90% back to normal, I am having another check up on 4th December at my local hospital and back to Liverpool in February. My biopsy results were as good as I could have hoped for, in the way that I didn't have the Monosomy 3 chromozone that is at risk of spreading to the liver.

I am so thankful that I am doing so well so far, I am keeping positive and hoping my good recovery continues for a long time to come.

    How are you doing Kathy?

    Carolyn xx

  • Hi Carolyn, So pleased your eyesight is doing so well and results good. I am doing ok thank you. Returning to work was good for me, makes me get up and go and I do enjoy the customer contact, am a real people person. I think today was the first day I didn't cry on the drive home, which is a good sign. Old man is placed in the bedroom at present so have a yarn to him in the am and at bedtime. So doing ok I think. Almost midnight here so will need to make tracks and head off to bed soon Take care honey Kathy xx
  • Hi Carolyn, Great to read your latest post to Kathy. I hadn't forgotten you, but have been off the radar for a few days! Good news about the biopsy result too! Keep up the good recovery! Kathy, can I just say what a wonderfully supportive member of the forum you are. I know you are going through so much (Your thread made me cry) and yet you so 'giving' to others (me included on my thread!) I hope that being able to support others, offers you some comfort. Have a good sleep! Hugs to you both, Jo xx
  • Good Night Kathy, sleep well and sweet dreams.

  • Hi Jo, lovely to see you again, I've been off the radar too for a while, couldn't log on at one point and then computer went into meltdown! I agree - what a lovely supportive lady Kathy is going through so much and still thinking of others. A true angel.

    Look after yourself Jo,

    Carolyn xx
