brachytherapy for cervical cancer

can anyone tell me about their experience with this treatment the thought of having to lie still for 12 -18 hours terifies me Gerry  x

  • Hi Gerry

Sorry for not replying earlier but I have been away for a few days and only returned today.  I haven't been on this web site for months but Cancer Chat emailed me about your post and I wanted to help.

As you will see from my profile I was diagnosed with Stage 2b cervical cancer in November 2009.  Radiotherapy started on the 14th December, 5 weeks of radiotherapy plus chemo (cisplatin) on a Tuesday for the 5 weeks, then another weeks radio for the lymph node.  After that I was admitted for the brachytherapy, which sounds daunting but nowhere near as bad as I thought it might be. If it will help I will go through the various stages of brachytherapy with you, just let me know.  I will willingly be here for you and answer any questions you have.

I have now almost completed 2yrs of 3 monthly check ups and still all clear I feel great and have gone from strength to strength!!!  I think the check ups continue for another 3 yrs, but every 6mths.

I found the best thing was to take it a step at a time, keep a positive outlook and tell yourself that you will beat it, it really does help.

Hope to hear from you soon.

  • I had three internal treatments which the last was on 17th august

I was nervous but couldn't believe how easy it was!

It's not as bad as it sounds honest I only had to lie still for 2-3 hours.

If you have any other questions please get in touch xx
