Newly diagnosed - husband found out in July he has stage 4 prostate cancer. We're still trying to process it all. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi there everyone, my husband was diagnosed in July with stage 4 prostate cancer. It has spread to his the surrounding lymph nodes and also to his bones. He also been diagnosed with Alzeimers in March of this year.. He had no symptoms of the cancer except running to the loo a lot, which we put down to ageing he is 75.  We are still trying to process it all, and would welcome any advice from anyone. Many thanks Anne.

  • Hi Amne I am sorry to hear about your husband.  It is scary being told you have cancer never mind stage 4.  I have stage 4 breast cancer which has spread to the majority of my bones.  I have been on first line treatment for nearly two years now and the cancer is stable and not spreading.  These days the treatments are very effective and you can live many years with a stage 4 diagnosis.  The Macmillan site that I am on has a few members of our forum with stage 4 prostrate cancer.  Your husband can still live a good life.  I walk my dogs, go shopping, eating out and have just been on holiday to Portugal.  It is helpful to phone the nurses on here on 0808 800 4040 for some guidance on getting support and help.  I also go to our local hospice who do lots of complimentary therapies etc. Maggies centre also offer lots of support.  Happy to chat anytime.
