Reassurance - husband diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer but has other health conditions which could prevent him from having treatment

My husband has just been diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer , which is highly treatable in some cases.

Unfortunately for us he has copd , emphysema,  fibrosis,  our hospital is unsure if he can be operated on , regular radiotherapy is out of the question , he may be offered microwave ablation but depends on anathetist,  just seems so cruel when it's at an early stage .

Anyone else on here been offered treatment with the same conditions.

We are all out of sorts and devastated

  • Hello Debbieannes and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and the reduced options for treatment, but I do hope a way can be found and the anaesthetist can give you an idea of the possible next steps that will be suitable for him.

When a loved one has cancer, you may feel helpless at times, but there is some advice for family, friends and carers, which I hope you find useful. I'm sure you'll be able to connect with other members on the forum who are in a similar situation. We also have a free and confidential nurse helpline if you'd like to speak to one of our dedicated team. The number is 0808 800 4040 and lines are open from 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.

All the best to you both and let us know how things are progress.
