Third recurrence of anal cancer, now stage 4.

My hubs has just been told he has incurable anal cancer as it’s spread to his lymph nodes. He’s had it twice before. The first time in 2018 was a complete response following chemoradiotherapy. The second time in 2022 he had APR surgery and a stoma. And now the b*stards back again!!! Feel exhausted with it all. His treatment option is now chemo but no cure will be possible so it’s about making his life as long and comfortable as possible. Anyone else been on this journey? Being a carer is so hard and I’m fed up of everyone telling me how stoic I’m being!

  • Hi  I'm so sorry about your husbands diagnosis. Three times what a b*stard. I finished my treatment for ac in Nov 24. I mostly go on the macmillan forum as its split into cancer types/ experiences. The ac section is very supportive and I have found it very helpful and supportive. There's quite a few people so there may be someone in the same situation as you. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Thank you! I’ll check it out xx

You ARE strong but it is important you acknowledge the challenges, unfairness & loneliness you feel. YOU matter too. There is support available and you should reach out. Sending A Virtual Hug from my corner of the world.

PS: Diagnosed with Anal Basaloid Squamous Cell Carcinoma a fortnight ago: awaiting Chemoradiation.

  • Hi   I'm sorry about your diagnosis. I was diagnosed in July 24 and went through chemoradiation in the October. The treatment isn't a walk in the park but wasn't as bad as I had expected. On the whole it is a very successful treatment. I'm currently cancer free and being scanned and checked every 3 months for 5 years which if I'm honest can be a bit much sometimes but at least I know I'm OK. If you have any questions just ask. Sending hugs. Xx
