New diagnosis today - Stage 2, grade 3, Invasive Breast Cancer

My results today showed I have Invasive Breast Cancer stage 2 grade 3 with oestrogen positive progesterone positive and HER2 receptor positive. My lump is measured at 4 cm with some dispersed but in the left breast. They have saiid due to my age they would offer chemotherapy for 6 months followed by lumpectomy and then radiotherapy treatment. So looking at 9  to 12 months of treatment.they plan to take 2 limp nodes out as well.i have to have injections at the same time as chemotherapy due to blocking the receptors. The plan is that I need CT and MRI scan as well as a heart scan, and they want more tests and an appointment with oncologist and to start the chemo very soon within 3 weeks they hope.

  • Hello BoxStar2014

I'm sorry to hear that your results earlier this week showed that you have breast cancer. It's understandable that this might have been difficult news to hear, and I hope that you felt reassured by the specialists who are going to be involved in your care.

It's not unusual to have additional scans, tests and appointments prior to starting chemotherapy treatment, and hopefully, when you see the oncologist, they will be able to answer any questions you have and let you know about the support that they will be offering over the next few months.

Hopefully, you will be able to connect with other people soon who have been or are on a similar journey to you. In the meantime, if you think it may help to chat things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They can also help you think about any questions that you might want to ask at your next appointment. If you'd like to talk with them, they're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch BoxStar2014 and let us know how you get on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you I appreciate the message and at some point will probably ask more questions. It’s been a shock, and I have now got appointments lined u. Already had a CT scan, MRI this Monday and then the rest the following week.

  • Hi Boxstar, I'm just behind you. Grade 3 no staging yet. Waiting for receptor results. CT scan in the morning. Will be chemo surgery radiotherapy and hormone treatment once receptors known. Is alot to take in. And worrying. Let us know how you are.

  • Hi TRU64

Sorry to hear your on the same journey. So I start Chemo on 19th June. I had to choose between 2 treatments. However one of them was not really an option due to my diabetes etc. also my doctor advised which was less draining on the heart due to effects it has. So it was more or less chosen for me. Ok so I have still got a further ultrasound on my right side due to nodules showing up on my MRI scan. My CT scan showed all other areas and organs all ok.

I have this on Monday then a kidney blood test on Tuesday. Then my pre assessment is booked for 16th June then Chemo starts 19th June. It is worrying because it’s the unknown, but I am remaining focused and positive. Yes not looking forward to the effects of Chemo. My first info was my tumour is 4cm stage 2 and it’s long about 1cm wide. However now it’s measuring 5.5cm it’s grown in length. So it’s really important to get my treatment started. I know it’s invasive breast cancer and triple positive with HER2 being the fast growing receptor.

i am signed off work due to the work I do, I would be unable to be there due to my immune system already being low as a diabetic before the Chemo starts. My program of Chemo is an 18 week period all being well that none is delayed. It’s every 3 weeks that I will go.Remember to breathe through your CT scan in a calm way so you can relax, think of something calming. It helps. Hope the scan goes well. Just take each stage at a time, it’s what I did. It is a lot to take in. Inbox me if you need to. Take care x

  • Hi BoxStar2014

Im sorry you're going through this too. Glad your CT scan was clear, That's good news. Yes for starting the chemo soon, need to shrink it so you can have surgery soon after your course finishes. Its the not knowing that is the stressful part. My receptor results will be back hopefully by Friday. Then with my scan and those results, a plan can be sorted out. I cant say I feel very calm at the moment! One step at a time. Good luck with the chemo and hope its OK for you xx
