Triple negative breast cancer - struggling with my emotions whilst waiting for my diagnostic tests. I just don't think it's sunk in

I got diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer grade 3 on Wednesday it was a shock I have been told I will be haveing 6 months chemo surgery and radiotherapy. I told my daughter who has her GCSEs comeing up on Friday that was very difficult but she has taken it well just waiting on diagnostic tests still waiting on appointment for CT and PET scan the waiting inbetween is really frustrating me at the moment and I’m struggling with emotions but keeping positive at the same time meet back with consultant on the 8th of April so once I have my plan I’m sure things will settle then onto the next stage I just don’t think it has sunk in yet .

  • Hello Katie8936,

I can imagine receiving the news of your diagnosis was a bit of a shock for you and it is an awful lot to have to take in but you are spot on when you say that once you have a plan, things will settle a bit and you will feel less in the dark.

There's nothing harder than this feeling of waiting and not knowing exactly what to expect and what the details of your treatment plan might be. Meeting your consultant on the 8th will hopefully help you get some clarity and feel a little bit better.

Don't hesitate to write down any question that springs to your mind before the 8th - it's easy to forget what we wanted to say and if you wanted to talk things through or get any advice from our cancer nurses whether before or after your appointment, feel free to get in touch with them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

You will also find detailed information on our website on triple negative breast cancer including on treatment for triple negative breast cancer which I hope you will find useful and I also hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had the same diagnosis before and that they will be happy to share their treatment journey and experiences with you.

Best of luck for your appointment - and also good luck to your daughter for her GCSEs I hope she's not feeling too stressed about all her exams coming up!

    Best wishes,
