Inflamatory breast cancer stage 3

I got diagnosed with inflamatory  breast cancer grade 3 this morning I am so scared. I dont think I actually took much in of whats happening. I know I have to have chemo and a mastectomy . I am so worried im not goung tonsurvive this even though the consultant said its curable. Has anyone else been through inflamatory breast cancer?

  • Hi Katdea I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  It is so scary when you first find out you have cancer isn't it.  I do not have inflammatory breast cancer but lobular breast cancer.  You will survive this and as the consultant says it is curable.  If you go onto the Macmillan website, there is a forum for breast cancer and some of the ladies on there have inflammatory breast cancer.  Good luck and happy to chat.

Hi Katdea yes I know what you mean, the waiting is the worst bit.  Once I knew I had cancer I just wanted the treatment to start immediately.  Are you having the chemo first.  I had lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy and then had chemo.  I was 47 when diagnosed.  It is hard but you will get through it.  Big hugs.

Yes ive had all my biopsys i have to have the last one thats in my neck then for chemo for 3 or 4 months then mastectomy. They said they can cure it so im hopful. Im not bothered what I have to go through so long as im still hre haha. How did you cope with the chemo is it as bad as people on Google say it is x

  • Hi Katdea chemo is hard I won't say it is not.  They give you medication to counter act any side effect you may have.  The best bit of advice I got was to try and keep to a normal routine.  This was a good way for me to control what I could.  I got up and walked the dogs every day.  Enjoyed a glass of wine with my meals when I could.  Still went out to eat and pubs etc.  It really was the best advice.  Are you going to try the cold cap?  I didn't as it adds on about two and a half hours to your treatment time.  I started losing my hair exactly two weeks after the first chemo.  I had a fab wig which I wore when I went out.  When are you starting?  Happy to chat. xx

  • I think ill give that a miss then I dont want to add hrs lol I dont mind loosing my hair so ill choose a wig. I just want to get started now. I have an appointment with my oncologist on Thursday and a bone scan tomorrow. Then another test on the lymph node in my neck so hopfully they may start me the following week. Are you now cancer free or still having treatment x

  • Hi I am still having treatment and have a CT scan tomorrow.  Have you got permanent eyebrows as you will lose them as well.  I had a bone scan about three weeks ago.  x

  • I have got eyebrows but I know someone who can help me if i loose them. Where would be the best place to get a wig is it through the nhs. I really hooe your scan goes well please stay in touch. Are they optimistic on your treatment. They said they can cure mine so im quite hopful. X
