Waiting breast biopsy results but consultant confident it will be positive. I'm so scared of what comes next and need someone to talk to who understands

Hi all ,

Am absolutely terrified . Thought I found a lump 6 months ago that seemed to come , go then came back and stayed . Went to GP 3 weeks ago who didn't think it was sinister but referred me to breast unit . Had appointment on Monday and consultant after seeing mammogram and scan is confident it is sinister .. Now just waiting for biopsy results .. Lump is somewhere between 1.3 & 1.5 mm according to the images.  Am just so scared of what comes next and desperately need someone to talk to who understands x

  • Wouldn't surprise me if you weren't down for a morning op if your having your tracer tomorrow.

I'd taken my headphones but forgot I had them !

What time do you have to be at the hospital for on Thursday? xx

  • Same time as me .. You may well be a morning op x

  • I shall know soon enough as the time seems to be rushing by. How are you doing? Feeling tired or okay?

Try not to do too much too soon will you?

  • Time always seems to go faster when you don't want something to arrive .

I'm doing ok , better than I expected to be honest . I went out this morning for a walk but have just sat in my pjs and watched a film this afternoon.  I've made lunch and washed up etc.  I'm just being careful not to lift anything heavy or to over stretch my arm .

What time is your appointment tomorrow ? x

  • Good heavens that is such good progress and just shows how modern medicine has come on in leaps and bounds! 21 years ago I was in hospital after a bilateral lumpectomy for three days and had drains and bottles that had to be cleared before I could go home. Now look at you, just one day after your op!!!

Appointment is 2.15 for the dye and 4.15pm for the scan..

    Sleep well!

  • Hi Butterflywing,

I am delighted to hear that all went well with your op. It sounds as if you are already making good progress, when you managed a walk today and have been able to do some of your exercises already. Just give yourself time to recover and don't overdo things. Did they say when your pathology results will be back?

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jolamine

    Guess who can't sleep

I was told I'd get an appointment within 3 - 4 weeks which is sooner than I expected as was told 5 weeks in the breast clinic.

I don't know if that includes oncytype testing ( I'm Er+ Her - ) I never asked if they were doing that type of testing on it.

    How are you doing? xx

  • Hi Butterflywing,

I didn't expect to hear from you at this time - I was hoping that you might be catching up on your lost pre-surgery sleep. As far as I recall, they test that your surgeon has got clear margins and that your lymph nodes are clear. If they find any additional changes, this can mean revising your treatment plan.

I'll never be the same as I was pre-cancer, but I'm doing ok. Spent all day at the hospital today with my hubby, who has broken his shoulder in a fall. He spent 3 weeks in hospital before Christmas having collapsed and broken 5 ribs. He also had a Haemothorax and developed Pneumonia when he was in, so he is still very frail.

Hope that you manage to get to sleep.

  • Hi Vivaldi,

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and hope that all goes well. You'll find the whole process muck slicker than it was last time - great advancements have been made in the interim. As far as dressing is concerned - you'll find it easier to wear clothing which opens at the front instead of having to raise it over your head.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
