Recent Breast Cancer Diagnosis

I’m 54 and don’t know where to start with all of this. I had a recall letter after a routine mammogram just 4 weeks ago. I then had a further mammogram, ultrasound and a biopsy. I week later we were back at the hospital when I was told that I have grade 2 breast cancer, 5 minutes later we were talking to a surgeon. It’s all been such a shock, nobody in my family has had breast cancer.
Since the diagnosis I’ve had a contrast mammogram and further biopsies. The result of the biopsy showed pre cancerous changes. Soooooo we met up with the surgeon again & I’ve been given 4 different options for surgery.

  • Mastectomy
  • Mastectomy with reconstruction
  • Breast reduction of both breasts removing the cancer.
  • Mastectomy with reconstruction at a later date.

I’ve decided to have a straightforward mastectomy.

It’s been a a rough few weeks. I found out I have cancer less than 3 weeks ago and we’re at this stage now. My head is spinning. I could be having the surgery before Christmas!!
Anyone with a similar experience? I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks in advance.
