VaIN 3 - results from biopsy. Will be having an appointment with a consultant soon but nothing mentioned about the procedure I'm meant to have. Is this right?

So the results of biopsy are VaIN 3 . I’ve had contact saying I will be having a procedure and will be contacted with an appointment date .  I have an appointment soon with consultant no instructions or information in appointment letter about any procedure taking place . Would I be right in thinking this appointment is to discuss treatment options available  ? or is it likely a procedure will be carried out at the same appointment ?  Just wondering as the biopsy was taken on my initial appointment and then there was a vaginoscopy on a second appointment with no biopsies as it was all clear .

Hi jazzle. Glad to see you have had the deed done and you are doing well. Sorry to leave til now to reply.

I actually was fast tracked and had mine done a week before Christmas. Was supposed to be the week before but was cancelled the day before. When you've  built yourself up then had it put back it's disappointing.  Anyway, it was so busy in the day case unit, probably as people had been cancelled previously, that the surgeon didn't see me before I went home. I expected to see him before I left for an update on what exactly was done, as previously, but was disappointed.

Developed infection and had antibiotic treatment shortly afterwards,  but got worse and had to go to a+e. That's  the problem when a doctor issues you something online and doesn't see you. However I'm OK now after 2 different strong antibiotics.

I didn't want to make you anxious and that's why I didn't let you know how it went. It's been difficult to adjust to my new 'body' as I'm not the way i was, after 2 procedures.

    I have a follow-up appointment in June.

Many thanks for replying to me, it helps to have you x

  • Hi i have vin 3,first diagnosed with lichen schlerosus years before.

I was sent to a gynaecologist who first took a biopsy, took ages to get the results, but yes it was Vin 3 pre cancerous cells of the vulva. The gynaecologist didnt want to offer any treatments, apart from monitoring it. Every 3 mths at the start, then later on every 6 mths, then every 12 mths. I wasnt happy about that, so my gp arranged inbetween my gynaecologist appointments to see a dermatologist. She prescribed a cream ( ingroid cream I think it was called). Anyway, the cream instructions were labelled wrong, told me to use it 3 times a day, it should of been 3 times a week. It caused me so much pain, large ulcers and holes. So I had to stop using it.

It eventually healed by the time of my next gynaecologist appointment and he said that cream can be too potent at the best of times, even when used correctly that's why I rarely use it . So I'm still being monitored as it can come back. Last time I went, I was getting itches again so he said ill see you in 9 mths time, which will now be in June 2026.

Having a lot of stress at the min, and I'm still getting itches, so hoping its not returning . I just have vinegar on my vulva, which stings a bit, and the gynaecologist looks at the vulva under a large microscope each time to check it. That's my experience  so far with my vin 3. I suppose it depends on what gynaecologist you have, and how they treat the condition.
