VaIN 3 - results from biopsy. Will be having an appointment with a consultant soon but nothing mentioned about the procedure I'm meant to have. Is this right?

So the results of biopsy are VaIN 3 . I’ve had contact saying I will be having a procedure and will be contacted with an appointment date .  I have an appointment soon with consultant no instructions or information in appointment letter about any procedure taking place . Would I be right in thinking this appointment is to discuss treatment options available  ? or is it likely a procedure will be carried out at the same appointment ?  Just wondering as the biopsy was taken on my initial appointment and then there was a vaginoscopy on a second appointment with no biopsies as it was all clear .

  • Hi jazzle. Glad to see you have had the deed done and you are doing well. Sorry to leave til now to reply.

I actually was fast tracked and had mine done a week before Christmas. Was supposed to be the week before but was cancelled the day before. When you've  built yourself up then had it put back it's disappointing.  Anyway, it was so busy in the day case unit, probably as people had been cancelled previously, that the surgeon didn't see me before I went home. I expected to see him before I left for an update on what exactly was done, as previously, but was disappointed.

Developed infection and had antibiotic treatment shortly afterwards,  but got worse and had to go to a+e. That's  the problem when a doctor issues you something online and doesn't see you. However I'm OK now after 2 different strong antibiotics.

I didn't want to make you anxious and that's why I didn't let you know how it went. It's been difficult to adjust to my new 'body' as I'm not the way i was, after 2 procedures.

    I have a follow-up appointment in June.

Many thanks for replying to me, it helps to have you x

  • Hi i have vin 3,first diagnosed with lichen schlerosus years before.

I was sent to a gynaecologist who first took a biopsy, took ages to get the results, but yes it was Vin 3 pre cancerous cells of the vulva. The gynaecologist didnt want to offer any treatments, apart from monitoring it. Every 3 mths at the start, then later on every 6 mths, then every 12 mths. I wasnt happy about that, so my gp arranged inbetween my gynaecologist appointments to see a dermatologist. She prescribed a cream ( ingroid cream I think it was called). Anyway, the cream instructions were labelled wrong, told me to use it 3 times a day, it should of been 3 times a week. It caused me so much pain, large ulcers and holes. So I had to stop using it.

It eventually healed by the time of my next gynaecologist appointment and he said that cream can be too potent at the best of times, even when used correctly that's why I rarely use it . So I'm still being monitored as it can come back. Last time I went, I was getting itches again so he said ill see you in 9 mths time, which will now be in June 2026.

Having a lot of stress at the min, and I'm still getting itches, so hoping its not returning . I just have vinegar on my vulva, which stings a bit, and the gynaecologist looks at the vulva under a large microscope each time to check it. That's my experience  so far with my vin 3. I suppose it depends on what gynaecologist you have, and how they treat the condition.

  • Hello both , thanks for your updates . Gosh you both seem to of gone through it a bit since your initial diagnosis.  Hope you are both feeling a bit more comfortable now .  I have to admit I have been getting a bit anxious again because on my discharge after the procedure the discharge information on my letter (addressed to me and given to me on discharge) was incorrect . It was not that noticeable initially but when I got home read through it and it did not mention my procedure but someone else’s I believe , a bit of panic set in .  There was no mention of sutures or any follow up appointment . I did query this (a long story) but was told there would be a follow up appointment in 8 weeks .
I did have sutures. Which were dissolving at about 4 weeks and appear now to of gone .  My concern since has been why not just give me an appointment in the 8 weeks time slot the wound should be healed by then ? But no I’m on a waiting list again  whilst still waiting for the biopsy results following the WLE  .  I just feel it is really hard work coping with the inconsistencies of what goes on with lack of contact and updates .  When I’m with people/staff on a face to face basis it’s not always perfect but so much better .  Enough now , I should consider that I am probably in a better position than many others who are  on this forum  but times and things can be lonely , scary and stressful I appreciate the updates and information from everyone . Keep taking care …….xxx

  • Yes  i agree with you, seems daft to put you back on the.waiting list. Ive got a history of bowel ressection because of flat  sessile polypthat cintauned pre cancerous cells, olus ive had breast cancer, and lots of cancer in my fanily,so thats proberly.why im still on the gynocologists list, been on it forr 3 years ,checked every year, but this time its only.going to be 9mrhs ,ive got another appointment in june. Hope all goes ok  for you .

  • Hello to you both . hope you are getting on ok .  I did get a short notice appointment just within the 8 week time frame . Each time I go for the appointments I see someone different . I realise this may happen with various things but there does not seen to be any continuity . Anyway another very nice consultant explained that the precancerous cells had been removed and that the biopsy from the removed section did show VIN3 . The wound was checked and it was considered to have healed well but no other examination/internal as it was to soon after the procedure being done . I got the impression that this consultant will be the one I will see for future appointments but I do wonder how they determine what has actually been done when I never did see them in the first place ? (am I making sense) . Think there is still maybe a bit of inconsistency with things as a month after I was phoned for another appointment with the specialist consultant (which I thought had already been done) . The female on the phone said no that was the general vulva clinic not the specialist so another appointment was booked and guess what it was cancelled within 24 hours . So I am as far as I can tell down for further check/s in 6 months time date to be advised and should I feel the need to be seen earlier to make contact with the secretary . To date nothing relating to the completed appointment and biopsy results has been confirmed in writing to me and nothing to be found on the NHS app .

Just trying to chill out a bit more now and pick up with some things  socially with my sister .  Would be nice to hear from you both again , take care care .......xx

  • Hi , I do hope you get some answers soon, my next appointment is on the 22nd june. I'm more concerned about my daughter at the moment, as she has been diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer which has spread to her liver. Has had op to remove blockage and tumour, but liver is inoperable at the moment. Hoping her treatments of chemo and other drugs will shrink the lesions in her liver. My daughter  has had her first 46hrs of chemo ,we had her hen night last night, and she's been lucky so far with hardly any side effects. Praying this is the case with the next lot of 46hrs on the 15th april as my daughter's wedding is on the 24th April. So I haven't really thought much about me, and my health issues, but admit I'm worried about having to have one if my front teeth out on 1st may, silly i know, but i hate the dentist ,and don't want to be without my tooth, until i can have dentist carry out work on me, not sure if i can have an implant, might have to have a bridge. I'm dreading it lol. Do hope you get some good news soon. Take care and let us know how things go .xxx
