Diagnosed with lung cancer at 50 y/o. Has anyone else been diagnosed at this age? Will be having an op to remove right lower lobe.

Hi everyone I have recently been diagnosed with stage 1b lung cancer I am only 50 so I have been told is very young I am having an op to remove my right lower lobe. It just doesn’t feel real. Is there anyone else of this age ??

  • Sorry to hear about your lung cancer diagnosis. I had lung cancer in my right upper lobe. Had a lobectomy eleven weeks ago. I was terrified at the time. The op wasn't as bad as I imagined. The first three weeks are the worst. I was stage2. I am now cancer free. I'm back at the gym. I felt like you. I had no symptoms. The surgery is your best chance. Your stronger than realise. You can fight this. We can't let cancer win. Take a deep breath and go for it. You've got this. Wishing you all the best and a quick recovery. Your not alone.

  • Hello yes I was diagnosed with stage 3a lung cancer back in February and I am also 50 but deemed far to unfit unfortunately it is in my right upper lobe..it was a shock though I kind of suspected I was ill and kept putting doc off..silly silly girl I am

  • Hi Christine that’s great news you are cancer free, you will obviously have the 5 year follow ups of scans like I have been told but they told me until you have had them they can not say that you will be cancer free until then. ?? I too had no symptoms it was caught by chance with an u related cough due to an over active thyroid that also did not know I had but thank god I did otherwise it would have been too late as my consultant said. I meet the surgeons on Monday 15th. I will not be beaten by this for sure.

  • Hi Deborah so is it chemotherapy you are having ? It is a shock very much so. I can’t even talk to my wife about it or my parents I am talking to a friend which helps me to try and process it.

  • They said I was cancer free at present. Scans from now on.
