Thrombocythaemia

Hi. I've just been diagnosed with thrombocythemia. For those have never heard of it (like myself until today) it's a rare blood cancer. It's not terminal but there isn't a cure either. I can be treated with medication. I guess the word cancer scared me and its genetic do I'm worried about my children and dint know if they should be tested? My mind usxall over the place and I don't know who to talk to. I feel like crying, then feel pathetic as it's not terminal and guilty for even posting here.

  • Hi Donaldduck,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

Certainly don't feel guilty about posting here, it's exactly what this forum is here for - a safe space to write things down and reach out to others, particularly when you're finding it tough to talk to others around you.

It sounds like you are dealing with a lot so it's of course understandable that you're feeling lots of different things.

I'm not sure if you've got all the information yet or if you're waiting for more appointments to find more out - if so then I hope it's not long to wait for this. Do of course be sure to ask any questions you have about what to expect to your doctor.

If ever you feel you'd like to talk things through, our nurses are also available. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope this forum can be of some support to you, and that you get some more replies to your post soon. You can also search the forum (using the bar at the top of the page) for other relevant discussions and people to connect with, if you'd like to.

We're always here for support if you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
