Completely loosing my mind - please advise

Hello,

My dad (aged 53) has just been diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to his lymph nodes, liver, spine, sternum & pelvis. With a node removed from bowel. Prior to this he was a healthy male and has only presented with shortness of breath which we have been told might only be linked to a clot he has. The doctors are shocked that he has no other symptoms and remains independent in all his personal tasks and mobility.

The conclusion is that this will be for palliative not curative treatment and I am not coping with the wait of not knowing his prognosis.  I am also 26 wks pregnant and every time I think about life of him not seeing or spending time with his first grandchild I break.

I am hoping for any information on best next steps and ways to manage as possible please. Who should we have involved?

thank you

  • hi there, my mum at 81 fit and healthy has just been dianosied with stage 4 lung cancer metasis. we all in shock as she is so healthy and looks well no pain or symtoms other than weight loss. not sure what her options are due to having hospital delirium and bit of memory loss.

  • Hi Kat, I can only try to imagine how you and your family are feeling with the news about your Mum.

Having no pain or experiencing symptoms isn't unusual and a blessing for her.

In my experience regarding options, I'm sure this will be discussed with you and her Oncologist team.

It depends on many things, including her age, pre-existing health issues and the prognosis.

In some cases, palliative care may be offered, where no treatment is considered to be beneficial for the patient.

Thinking of you at this very difficult time.

Hope you have support and care for you..

  • Yes my mum is a fit 81 year old was in Tenerife 3 weeks ago, played golf no medical issues not even on any medication. So this why come as a massive shock even consultant was in shock

  • Knowledge of the same thing happening to a close friend and family members..

Neighbour, fit and healthy 83 year old with no previous health issues, diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer... no invasive treatment, palliative care offered..

My 65 year old sista, routine bloods and a diagnosis of Myeloma 10 days later..

So I do understand your shock and the overwhelming impact on you all
