My dilemma

I have just been diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer on 24th March

my dilemma is do I go for the operation to have one loab of my left lung removed completely or for Chemotherapy

I am 71yr old and relatively fit going for a 3 ml walk every day

just can’t make up my mind

  • When I have a difficult decision to make, I will often write things down.  I'll do a list of pros and of cons.  I find it helps to write things down to stop thoughts whirring round and round in my head.

Also, it would be good to make sure you have all the information you need to make a fully informed decision

And of course, give special consideration to all that your consultant has to say on the matter.

    Good luck!

  • That is really good advice Hopecalm.  Writing it all down is a good way of weighing up pros and cons.

  • A close friend age 67 was in a similar situation 6 weeks ago, he decided to accept the chemo and surgery... a hard decision to make..

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Four weeks ago I had the lower lobe of my left lung removed together with lymph nodes and a segment of the upper lobe. I'm quite fit as well, aged 63. I'm feeling much better now and back to normal activities, including 9 holes of golf! I wouldn't worry about surgery  as your remaining lungs will expand. I was really worried about how I'd cope, but I really do feel a lot stronger each day. Also, by having surgery it will be removed.

    Hope this helps.

    Best wishes.
