Scared. Found out on Monday that I have breast cancer.

Hi new hear.  Found out Monday I have breast cancer.
out of my depth is an understatement. Have an appointment next week to discuss options the a CT scan the following week. Where ever I have looked I can’t seem to find a real true account of what’s going to happen.  I know it depends on the treatment package.  All I know is I have Beryl BC and I am so scared xxx

  • Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I have breast cancer.   In  some ways the test and results bit of the process was the worst part for me -Now I am through that and have a treatment plan  I feel more reassured and calm.  You might find the same.  Once the shock wore off I got used to it and found "the new normal".  I hope you find the same.

Iid write down all the questions you want to ask so you are fully prepared when you see the Dr next week.

    Good luck with everything.

  • Me too. Found out for certain on Monday also  out of my.depth. convinced its elsewhere too. As I have a cough and cold. I'm waiting for pre op review,  anesthetic review then lumpectomy and radiotherapy. Ita an awful time. The waiting, hoping struggling with emotions. I've been to the gp and he has prescribed diazepam to get me through. I've had a few panic attacks which has scared my.poor husband! So I thinks it's quite normal to feel out of control and scared. Go see your gp. They can help too. Find someone you trust and talk to them. It may nelp. Plus, I'm here.  We can compare.notes!

  • All sounds familiar.  If it’s any consolation, I went through a very anxious patch but now I’m not so bad.  So maybe theses things come in waves and don’t last…I have found CBT very useful.  You can get it on the NHS, via the GP, but I don’t know how long the waiting lists are.  I went privately.  I used to feel bad that I wasn’t coping when everyone around me seemed to be doing well.  However, you just don’t know what is going on inside people and Im assured Drs are VERY used to seeing people who find their cancer experience difficult at some point..

Inf ormation is key to managing the situation and itts good to go in to consultations pre armed with a list of questions.  Helplines / websites  are good but they can only give general information, which may or may not apply to one’s specific case.

    Best of luck with everything
