Advanced lung cancer

Any advise as I move towards chemotherapy? What  can I expect ?

  • Hello Tunefil,

I am sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer and I thought you might be interested in reading our information page on advanced lung cancer and in particular on treatment for lung cancer - you will find information too on chemotherapy for lung cancer which I hope will give you some insight into what to expect so you can get a little bit prepared before your treatment starts.

I hope that you can start your treatment soon and that it all goes well for you. If you wanted to talk to one of our cancer nurses and wanted to ask any question, don't hesitate to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to tell you more about what to expect from your treatment.

There are other members of our community who have advanced lung cancer and I hope they will be along shortly to share their treatment experiences with you. I've come across quite a few posts recently from members affected by advanced cancer and you might want to reach out to them so don't hesitate to respond to their threads if you feel like doing so. For example,  have a look at Josie  's thread and just a few days ago  shared their journey living with advanced lung cancer and Maria  posted this thread only 9 days ago about feeling alone living with advanced lung cancer and in that thread you will notice the reply by Lin  who mentioned being about to start chemotherapy and radiotherapy and feeling a bit scared too. These are only a few examples but I hope that you will find it interesting to read other people's experiences.

Best of luck with your treatment and I hope that you will find comfort in talking here to others who are in a similar place,

  • I am going to receive a targeted therapy called osimertinib. Has anyone had this treatment for lung cancer?

  • No, but I had treatment with immunotherapy back in 2016 when diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer and given 5 months to live. I am still here thanks to pembrolizumab.
