Living with advanced lung cancer - my journey so far

Hello,

I have lung cancer, which has spread to my bones , Like anyone living with cancer , I have good days and Bad. I still drive and go shopping on my own do housework just become fatigued really quickly . I was given between two and three years and year has passed so quickly. I think nights are the worst. That’s when all the thoughts come into your head. I have a great relationship with my children, especially one of my daughters who I’m particularly close to and I share all my fears with her. I can’t share them with my partner of 30 years because he doesn’t really feel like it’s true. He’s burying his head in the sand and he’ll face it when it happens, although his supportive in other ways he doesn’t like me to talk about it which is quite difficult .

  • Hello JEllis

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It's understandable that you have good and bad days.

I'm glad to hear that you've been well supported by your daughter. It's so important to have someone that you can talk things through with. I know from the many posts I've read on the forum that partners can often find it difficult to be that close source of support to a loved one whilst they are dealing with their own fears and worries but it's good to know that he's supportive in other ways.

I hope that you've felt supported by the health professionals involved in your care. Do reach out to them if you think that it may be helpful to talk with someone about your concerns or have any questions. If it would help to chat with one of our nurses at any point you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch JEllis if it helps to have a safe space to put down in writing how you're feeling. The Cancer Chat community is here for you.

    Best wishes,
