Waiting for scan results - just been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer

This is all new to me…I’ve had my second mammogram biopsy and titanium clips fitted today. I have been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer (22mm) but they are also checking another area that shows up on one of the earlier mammograms. I had a CT and MRI scan last week - the waiting for those results is really getting to me now…I’m just over thinking things and worrying myself it has spread. I have come to terms with the cancer diagnosis but very anxious at the moment waiting. I am trying to keep busy and carry on as normal- but it’s hard!

  • Hi Busjo, mine was also stage 2, 22mm idc. The waits are the worst and we do over think. Assuming it's travelling all over the place. The scans will show what's going on and then they can work out a treatment plan for you. I won't say try not to worry because that's impossible, but don't panic. There's so much treatment available . I was re-called for a mammogram done in April. Lumpectomy June 16th, radiotherapy in August and hormone tablets for 5 years as mine was oestrogen fed. Everyone's cancer is unique to them, there are so many different types of breast cancer and a lot of them are fairly slow growing. You will get through this, find something that helps occupy your mind. For me it was listening to audio books, I had to concentrate on the story and it stopped me thinking. Good luck, I hope the results come quick for you and I wish you well x

  • Thanks for responding. I’ve tried to keep busy today doing some ‘spring cleaning’ and marking exam papers  I have my consultant appointment tomorrow might..I could throw up right now

  • Good luck for tomorrow ! Once you know more of what's going on it'll be easier to accept and face head on. Even now, I remember the absolute terror I felt. Thought I would implode with sheer panic. Its so much better once you know the facts and have a treatment plan. Take someone with you, you'll forget half of what's said. Hugs and let's us know how it goes if you feel like sharing x
