Waiting for scan results - just been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer

This is all new to me…I’ve had my second mammogram biopsy and titanium clips fitted today. I have been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer (22mm) but they are also checking another area that shows up on one of the earlier mammograms. I had a CT and MRI scan last week - the waiting for those results is really getting to me now…I’m just over thinking things and worrying myself it has spread. I have come to terms with the cancer diagnosis but very anxious at the moment waiting. I am trying to keep busy and carry on as normal- but it’s hard!

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been told that you have breast cancer. It's understandable that you may be experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions, particularly while you're now waiting for further test results.

We know that for many people the period between initial diagnosis and treatment plans being discussed can be difficult. The unknown can be a scary prospect to face and it's natural that we overt think and worry about the what ifs. It can help to talk with someone about how you're feeling and I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk with one of our nurses before your next appointment with the specialists. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the biopsy and scan results to be available and the team will then be in a position to discuss with you the options for treatment.

Do keep in touch Busjo and let us know how you get on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,
