Mum had secondary cancer liver, lung, lymph node. We have an appointment tomorrow to find out more. How can we prepare for this meeting?

We have just found out that our wonderful mummy has secondary cancer and tomorrow have an appointment to understand where the primary is after a liver biopsy - I want advice on how to prepare my mmy for this meeting as I am so scared that the Consultant will say there are no treatment options when my mummy so wants to live and have treatment …. Any advice on how to ensure she is given a ally fair chance or any particular questions we should be asking or support we can give her ? Thanks ️

  • Welcome to the forum Londonirishpj although I'm sorry to hear your mummy has been diagnosed with secondary cancer.

This must be a very difficult time for you both but I hope your appointment with the consultant went well and you were able to find out more about your mummy's diagnosis and what treatment may be available.

If there was anything that you forgot to ask or that you still have playing on your mind since you spoke to the consultant, then don't hesitate to give our cancer nurses a call to talk things through. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all that they can to help.

Now that I've replied, I'm sure some of our members will be along soon to offer their support and advice for the journey ahead.

We're thinking of you Londonirishpj and sending all our support your way.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks for your reply - unfortunately she has been advised by the respiratory doctor she might have pancreatic cancer but they refer to it as adenocarcarcinoma - would be great to hear from others who have this ?

  • I'm sorry to hear that Londonirishpj.

You can find out more about adenocarcinoma on our website but for further information and advice about this type of cancer, do give our cancer nurses a call.

Hopefully some of our members who have received this diagnosis will share their stories with you soon, but you're very welcome to make a new discussion about this or post on other discussions you find about this when using the 'search forum' box at the top of this webpage.

    Kind regards,
