Hi, we’ve recently found out that mam has bowel cancer. She was all set for an operation to remove it and part of the bowel, but they had concerns about a lesion on the spleen that had shown up so another scan was done. Following the scan the hospital said the spleen was fine but they discovered that the lymph nodes near the inferior vena cava were 3 x size and can’t operate on these because of their position. Another scan, this time a PET scan shows that the lymph nodes are also cancerous. This has all happened in the past month so it’s been a lot to take in and now the hospital have said it’s going to be chemo through the chest ( I don’t know what this means) every day for a week, then a week break and 3 months of chemo thereafter. You always think if it’s spread to the lymph nodes that’s it- the hospital haven’t given any prognosis but confirmed metastasis. I’m worried about my father and how he will cope with this too, they are in their mid-late 70s. That’s it really, I just needed somewhere to get it out of my head.
