Pleomorphic lobular carcinoma in situ diagnosis

Hello, I have just been diagnosed with PLCIS in my left breast and wondered if anyone can give me more information or have also been diagnosed with this. After a second biopsy I was told that I have a 13mm area very close to my chest wall which will require a Wide local excision and am now waiting for a date for this.

Thanks on advance

  • Hi Renata,

thank you for your reply. I have now had my date for the lumpectomy. The date is 12th of April which is great as I was told end of May initially.

Have the school holidays to keep me busy with my two boys (10+12)

    Take care Carole

  • Update *

Have date for operation on Friday 12th of April now (originally told end of May) would still be grateful if anyone else who has had pleomorphic lobular carcinoma in situ could share their experience

Hi, I have only yesterday 4th April had a wide local excision and sentinel node biopsy, for a very similar breast cancer to yours, but it was in my right breast. I had my surgery around mid day and was home for around 6 in the evening. I'm on day one since surgery and although I have some pain it is manageable, keep on top of pain meds. I seem to be having more pain from the wound under my arm where they have removed lymphnodes more so than in the affected breast itself. The area of my cancer was 25mm, so I've kind of ended up with a breast lift/reduction in that one breast, surgeon said if I want to he can correct the symmetry at a later date and reduce the other breast but right now I'm just happy to have the surgery over with. Good luck with your upcoming surgery, take care and get plenty of rest before and after your surgery and dont expect too much from yourself.

Hi, thank you for your reply. Wishing you all the best in your recovery. There doesn't seem to be much about pleomorphic on the chats I have looked at so I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions. Don't worry about replying quickly as your rest is more important .

Was the size removed the same as you were told initially after the biopsy? Did you know about sentinel node biopsy prior?( There has been nothing said about this so far). Have you been told how long you need to wait for the results? Will you be having radiotherapy, or will you not know this until results are back? Sorry for all the questions

Once again thank you for taking the time to reply to me so soon after your operation. Take care of yourself, wishing you a speedy recovery.

Yes once your treatment starts , you’ll feel better . I had WLE 2 weeks ago . It wasn’t as bad as I expected . Managed on paracetamol , rest up for the 1st few days . Good luck x

Hi, yes they told me prior to surgery that they would be removing lymphnodes, not sure about the size removed but I know they also removed a 9mm mass, I have a follow up appointment on the 29th  for pathology results, these results will decide on the rest of my treatment, if it's in my lymphnodes I may need chemo if not then probably radiotherapy. Waiting is the worst part, it's a scary time and you just want to know! I also found they couldn't always answer all my  questions with certainty, I was answered with.. 'we wont know until after your surgery!'.. to a lot of them., which I found frustrating but I also get why at the same time. You will feel a little better once things start moving for you, I know I did, until then, lots of self care. Xxx

Hi Janam, just read over my first post and saw I said left breast. My head is like mash, it is my RIGHT breast!!! How are you feeling now? No mention of lymph nodes when I had appointment telling me results of 2nd biopsy so assume they won't do anything with them. Waiting 25days for results sound awful, I am in Aberdeen so not sure how long mine will take. I know they only give results on a wednesday as this is when MDT meet. Did your biopsy show pleomorphic? This is the word that's stressing me out .

I hope your results come back with nothing in the nodes. Please keep me updated if you have time. Take care. X x
