Prostate cancer

Hi all. My best mate was diagnosed with prostrate cancer... He had it removed and all was ok. Levels were 0.1.. Hes had a letter saying its risen to 0.2... Ive told him not ti google anything and ill do some digging. Will they start therapy or could a small rise just happen...  . Any  advice.

Thanks

  • Hi Nippy149 and welcome to the forum, great advice to not google. As your friend had his prostate removed and this is where all your PSA is produced, unless your friends recent test is no more than 4 weeks after surgery when residual PSA can still be in the blood, or the test was carried out at a different lab which have a slightly different testing procedure, so results may vary a little, it would seem a few cancer cells have been left behind. Your friends MDT will be fully aware of this and will discus it at their next weekly meeting. Nippy as your friends PSA rise is small it would suggest that there are just a few cancer cells to deal with. with radiotherapy the usual next step to wipe the little buggers out so your friend can get on with life without worrying about cancer anymore, take care.

  • Thanks for the reply. It's been about a year since he had the op to remove it... Since there's no prostrate as they removed  that with the cancer

.how can there be new cancer cells ?  This wouldn't then be prostrate cancer has he hasn't got one.. .

    I'm.lost. Lol.

     Thanks again Eddie

  • Hi Trev it is almost certain that the prostatectomy didn't get all the cancer cells and a few were left behind, and yes they will be prostate cancer cells. About 20% to 30% of surgeries don't remove all the cancer, Though as it has taken a year for your friends PSA to reach 0.2 ng/ml the cells will be few in number and slow growing and easily treated.
