Oncologist appointment tomorrow - what questions should I ask?

After being diagnosed on 18th January and going through all the various test, I finally get to see the oncologist tomorrow. Would like to hear from anyone who has any suggestions about what questions would be good to ask.

Also what are your experiences of how long it took for treatment to start after first oncology appointment. As my breast cancer is grade 3 and fast growing, I'm worried about it spreading, before my treatment even gets started.

Was it suggested you have a PICC line or port?

Hope it went well today lovely..thinking of you. Another dose done to zap, zap, zap! Hope you're home and resting up xx

  • Just checking in....hope you're doing ok today and being looked after xx

  • Hi Greeny80, I didn't sleep too well last night as kept waking up due to hot flushes, then needed to wee. Not really any side effects apart from tiredness. Did have a slight headache today, but not bad enough to take anything, so an improvement on last time. Went for a walk with hubby, which was really nice. How are you doing at the moment?

  • Hey! Sorry you didn’t sleep well but very happy to hear that side effects other than tiredness seem to be minimal. That’s great news! Long may that continue..

I’m doing ok. I’m over the nausea and was starting to feel good and have more energy but today my throat has been hurting and I have a few mouth ulcers! They’re not too sore at the moment so hoping they may calm after a good sleep!! My body really didn’t like this drug!!!!

my oncologist said I was allowed to travel though so I’m off to see my parents for Easter which I’m so looking forward to!

Hope you continue to breeze through this cycle! Hugs xx

  • Hi Pippin 24, hope all went well yesterday,  another one ticked off for you! Xx

  • Hi Greeny80 have just seen you're struggling with a sore mouth,  I asked the dentist for something last time I had chemo and he gave me difflam mouthwash,  it really helped,  quite pricey so try and get a prescription  if you can xx

  • Ah thanks so much! Yes the doctor has given me some difflam! I’m on it!! It’s not super sore at the moment, mouth just feels weird..going to jump into bed early and hope that nips it in the bud! Thank you so much for messaging..hugely appreciated! How are you doing?? Hope you’re ok? X

Thanks for checking in.  2 nd round ticked off woohoo.  Had a rather long day as team needed doctor to give an opinion seeing as I reacted to something first time.   Eventually he agreed my treatment could go ahead.  I’ve not reacted this time thankfully.  I’m being prescribed some strong medication for when injections start tomorrow so hoping that can be easier this time.  Just feeling very tired but weirdly cannot sleep and I’ve quite a bit of heartburn this time.
I had cold cap again and was easier second time round - long May that continue

i do feel rather encouraged just one more round of EC then I’m half way through.

how exciting you can travel and visit family - that will be such a boost

positivity certainly helps - not so sure my bank balance agrees though I have booked several positive trips / days out for post treatment and recovery to look forward to.

    xx
