Oncologist appointment tomorrow - what questions should I ask?

After being diagnosed on 18th January and going through all the various test, I finally get to see the oncologist tomorrow. Would like to hear from anyone who has any suggestions about what questions would be good to ask.

Also what are your experiences of how long it took for treatment to start after first oncology appointment. As my breast cancer is grade 3 and fast growing, I'm worried about it spreading, before my treatment even gets started.

Was it suggested you have a PICC line or port?

  • Hi Greeny,

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and I hope that it all goes well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Greeny80, I'm am so looking forward to seeing the grandkids today. It's strange, when I was first diagnosed I thought it would be hard to he relaxed and happy during these months ahead. I know it's early days, but so far I'm feeling good. Good luck today, I will be thinking of you. Hope all goes well with the cold cap and well done for giving it a try. I would have too, if I didn't already suffer from headaches. I have s lovely wig, which I'm really pleased with, although I haven't actually needed to wear it yet. Will certainly be interesting. I have also bought a variety of headwear from a site called anna bandana, which someone recommended. They seem really comfortable. Take care and will catch up with you after your treatment. Xx

  • Hi Madhatter

just checking in to see how you are doing ?   I have a PICC line and am pleased given my dear of needles.  I have to go weekly though for it to be flushed and redressed but that’s quick and easy.

I really  recommend the Look Good Feel Better group   They offer face to face workshops on skin care and make up with a wonderful goody bag of products

they also run on line groups on hair care and nail care

    I found this invaluable

I too have been wondering how you are doing MadhatterC. How did things go with your full body and head ct scan? Also wondered if you found out what the geriatric medicine was all about. Hope you're doing OK. Xx

  • Hi thank you for checking in,  I've got my phone call for pre chemo today and blood test,  I'm feeling very apprehensive at the minute,  can't seem to calm  myself down and have a permanent knot feeling in my stomach,  it's the unknown and uncertainty of everything for me,  hope you're all doing well xx

  • Hi Pippin sweetie how are you? So lovely to hear from you. I am actually waiting around the hospital now. Just had some radioactive dye put in to do the kidney test ready for chemo. I am back with the surgeon at the boobie clinic at 2pm. I assume that is to talk through the scans as I have no clue what else it could be.

  • Hi NGS, how you been hun, lovely to hear from you. How have you been getting on practically with the line? Thank you for the recommendations. I am going to look into that now while I am waiting about. I had my hair cut at the weekend from just below shoulders to a short Bob. Takes a bit of getting use to and no one has compared me to a blonde Lord Farquaad yet. So that is always a win. Had some work done at the dentist to get ready for chemo next week which as hit the pocket as had to go private, but all in all still trying to remain positive.

  • I'm doing really well at the moment, thank you. Finally got to see my gorgeous grandchildren today which was amazing. Last couple of times we were meant to me up, one of them was ill, so was too risky. My daughter got permission to take them out of school, so I could see them before next treatment on Monday. Have blood test on Thursday, oncology team phone consultation on Friday, then 2nd cycle on Monday. Then have my port fitted the week after. Sounds like you have had a busy day today, hope all went well. Are you still starting your chemo on 26th?

  • Awwww that is lovely news, everything is so much better with a Nanny hug. Hope you all had a brilliant time together today. Yeah all systems still green for 1st cycle next Tuesday. Meeting was just to say my CT scans came back all fine. They are going to re ultrasound scan my lymphnodes again tomorrow because they are still lumpy looking to check them. Then I have a root canal and introduction to the day unit Thursday and then need to give my consent Friday. The just need to nip and get some comfortable practical clothes to wear over the weekend and will take it all from there  it does seem to be all go this week. How are you feeling about cycle 2 mate?

  • So pleased to hear that your scan came back fine, that's such great news. Good that you have the chance to see the day unit before hand, I wasn't offered that. When I went for 1st treatment, the guy asked me if I'd already had a tour, so it is obviously something that can get offered. I also got some nice comfy clothes to wear for treatment, all these things help a little. Good that everything is still on track for Tuesday, you'll be fine. I'm not too worried about my next cycle, just be glad to tick another one off. Will have to have a catch up after treatments next week, take care. Xx
