Triple negative breast cancer

How do you tell family about this diagnosis without worrying them about what could mean for them but also keep them informed?

  • Hi Kirsty, just preparing myself for oncology appointment next Wednesday. Was having coffee today with someone who is going through chemo at the moment. She told me it can still be up to 3 weeks after this appointment, before chemo actually starts. Also recommended having a port fitted if it is offered as a choice, so will have to think about this. Let me know how your surgery goes on the 20th. Xx

  • Hi Kirsty,

I have just re-read your original post about telling family. This really depends upon what ages your family are. Breast cancer Care have a good booklet on how to tell young children. Most people wait until they have a full diagnosis first. You will find that the more positive you can be about the outcome, the better they will take it. If you are too "down" about it all when you tell people, you'll get all the sympathy of someone who is about to 'pop your clogs' and many friends will tend to avoid you, for fear of asking the wrong question.  You need to be positive about your treatment too, as this really does help your recovery - as does surrounding yourself by positive people.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hope everything goes well with your surgery and hopefully it won't be the Brca gene responsible,  sending positive thoughts and prayers to you x

  • Hi Kirsty

Sorry for jumping on your post, I’m also in Scotland, is things moving quickly for you ? I expected my treatment plan last Thursday however something else has shown up so  CT scan yesterday, I’d just got my head around knowing the treatment plan Thursday but now a delay until CT and another biopsy results are in. I’ve been told nothing is likely to start before March, beside myself waiting ! X

  • Dianedoc1 I am sorry to hear about your setbacks  that must be difficult to deal with. A similar situation happened to a friend of mine, she was all ready for her treatment when they found something unexpected on the scan.I took a bit of time to re program and wait for the new surgery date.

Take a deep breath, be kind to yourself, you will get there perhaps a bit later than you hoped but in time this will be behind you.

I hope everything gets back on track for you.x

  • Thank you !! It just helps I think to ask/write and know you’re not alone.

Hope your friends unexpected something turned out to be a nothing and able to treat the primary source.

Good luck with your treatment xx
