Radical Prostatectomy

Hi All

Was diagnosed with prostrate Cancer 2 days ago with a Gleason score of 3+3, my doctor is recommending radical prostatectomy (with only 1 nerve sparring) given the position of the tumour.

I'm am 55 years old and recently spilt with my partner of 23 years and terrified about dealing with this alone. But also worried about the side effects of the surgery and my ability to form a new relationship given the potential for erectile dysfunction and leakage problems.

The doctors is saying I can have the operation in 2-3 weeks which feels very soon and I wanted to know more about other options, radiotherapy, nano knife surgery etc...

Has anyone else had similar dilemmas about which option to choose and what were the outcomes.?

Any advice welcome as I not thinking very clearly right now!

Thanks in advance

  • Hello solar242 and welcome to the forum,  everyone has this dilemma when thinking about treatments and side effects for PCa, A gleason score of 6 is very low , so you have time to choose the right treatment for yourself so take your time, can you answer 2 questions if possible do you know your TNM staging, eg T1 N0 M0, and when you say your Dr is recommending a prostatectomy do you mean your surgeon,

  • Hi Solar242,

I am no Doctor but a Gleason score of 3+3 is low and sometimes they do active surveillance or some other treatment other than surgery off the bat. Again I aint no doctor but I would seek out a 2nd opinion for sure before I dive into surgery right away.

Because mister man Surgery has it’s ups and downs, its own nuances and they say.

Upside you most likely will live long enough to see a few more world cups. Downside you will have to try to enjoy dry orgasms while struggling/maybe with ED.

I can’t go on further because my mouth is being censored in this forum.

But all in all you should feel good with 3 + 3 I have read worst
