I am so sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with Stage 2 Prostate cancer but you've come to the right place to meet others who have had a similar diagnosis in the past. I did a little search for you and thought I would mention Charlotte1971 's thread - her dad was diagnosed with early prostate cancer and eddiel is also another member of our community who has had a prostate cancer diagnosis. Those are just a couple of examples and there are many more here who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and who will I hope come and respond to your thread and share their story with you.
I can imagine your head is spinning at the moment and you may have a lot of questions after your cancer diagnosis. Have you had any information yet about your treatment plan? Thanks for your reply and support it really does mean a lot, I have to decide which course of treatment route to take I have been offered an operation to remove the prostate or a hormone plus radiotherapy route and after appointment with the specialist I still have no idea which to choose. I have started suppressive hormone treatment and I have been taking Bicalutamide tablets for a week now prior to my first hormone injections on the 22/01/24 (this is when the specialist feels I should have an answer}
I am however feeling under increasing pressure to make a decision from the specialist but am not sure or confident on either route.
Some of the information I received during the meeting with the specialist was unknown to me and I was thrown for a time during and after the meeting especially the chances of being at a much higher risk of cancer at positive surgical margin because my cancer is on the prostate surface.
Any information conversation or direction to assist me in my decision making would be so much appreciated.
Well well, I am no Doctor but once you say that the cancer is on the prostate surface it means that is maybe locally advanced and on the brink of coming out the prostate. Once it comes out the prostate that is where the danger is and where it can spread to the bone.
Doctors at this stage are only concern with saving your life not too much about the quality of life thereafter, mean Sexual Dysfunction which you most likely might have after nerve sparing surgery.
The Doctors according to your Gleason Score and Age will sit with the MDT team which is a group of experts oncologist, Radiologist etc and decide on the best treatment with recommendations. They will want to give you a choice but they would also recommend the best option for you. Each option has it’s own nuances, none is perfect.
Hiya Lumpa thanks for the brilliant reply and advice. It was very helpful and very humorous gave me a smile and that's not a bad thing. I have finally come to a decision after a meeting with my doctor I will send a friend request and get my gym kit dusted off.
