Mom stage 4 lung cancer

My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 NSC lung cancer recently, she also has two small lesions on spine. She is suffering a lot with breathlessness but thankfully no pain and no other symptoms.

she begins chemo next week and her consultant has mentioned immunotherapy.

i am her only child and am providing all the support and care for her. It’s just devastating as she is usually such a fit and healthy person. It’s all been a huge shock .

i just wondered if anyone can offer any hope or share their experiences of treatment at this stage with lung cancer.
sending lots of love and light to others in similar circumstances. Would love to find a supportive network with others going through similar circumstances

thank you

  • Hello SweetD

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. It's naturally a worrying time for you all and understandable that you want to make sure you are as informed about things as possible

We have some information on our website about Lung cancer that you may find helpful and of course, you're most welcome to ring and chat with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

We seem to have quite a few members here in the forum at the moment whose Mums have been diagnosed with cancer so I wanted to try and maybe connect you with some of them. Whilst the exact diagnosis may be different, I'm sure that you will all have shared experiences that can help each other.  has recently started this thread ahead of her Mum starting treatment and  has also posted about her Mum's situation in this thread

Hopefully, you will be able to connect with other forum members who understand the challenges and concerns that come with caring for a parent with cancer.

I hope that things go smoothly next week. Keep in touch and let us know how you're both getting on.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn

  • Thank you for replying to my post. I have sent a connection request to those individuals you mentioned who are also going through similar situations with their moms. Hopefully we can provide some support to one another x

  • Hello My husband was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer last October 2023. He was give chemotherapy Paclitaxel and Carboplatin for 4 cycles every 3 weeks. The tumour started to shrink and he was doing really well, then the oncologist decided to put him on Immune therapy every 6 weeks. After 4 sessions he got inflammation and blood clots on both lungs so they had to stop the immune therapy.
what they didn’t tell us is that sometimes immmune therapy can cause this inflammation.  they put him on a high dose of steroids 16 a day to get rid of this inflammation. After suffering really bad side effects coming off the steroids for 8 days being sick and shaking (like a drug addict) they Have now after 6 months started a different chemotherapy called Docetaxel which is a strong one and at the moment he is bedridden and feeling very sick after just one session.  Has anyone else gone through this or is going through this treatment.?
