Head and Neck Radiotherapy

Hi

one of my parents has recently been diagnosed with head and neck cancer. Treatment will be 6 weeks radio daily along side one day chemo. He is currently still working. We have no treatment date yet due to tooth removal and a mask fitting.

Once hes finished treatment, will he be able to return to work soon? at the moment we feel he doesnt realise how hard this treatment is going to be during and after.

Has anyone any tips for comfort during treamtment?

Thankyou

  • Hello JMD1989

I'm sorry to hear that your parent is due to start radiotherapy for head and neck cancer shortly. It's understandable that you may have some concerns and questions about how things will progress over the coming weeks and months.

I wanted to suggest that you have a read through some of the posts on this thread. I'm also going to tag Hazel aka  in my response here. Hazel has been through this treatment journey and wrote a blog which I know many of our other members have commented on how helpful it was to read through. I'm sure you'll find the link to her blog on one of the posts in the thread I've highlighted.

We also have some information on our website about the side effects of radiotherapy for head and neck cancers. Do give our team of nurses a call if it would help to talk things through with them at any point. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that your parent's treatment plan goes smoothly and that they recover well.

    Best wishes,
