Question about chemo for her2+ breast cancer

I was diagnosed last week, and have my first oncology appointment this Thursday. I know I'm getting 9 rounds of chemo (3week breaks inbetween). I'm also getting two targeted medicines. My breast cancer is invasive ductal stage 2/3 and in 3 lymph nodes, her2+ I have my mri on my breasts tomorrow.

but I was wondering as anyone had similar treatment to mine? I will be doing everything my consultant suggests- im trying to read up, but I'm struggling to find similar cases

thanks

  • Good luck-let me know how it goes x

  • Back from my results appt.  Good news, MRI was showed nothing else aprt from two stringy bits leading to my nipple, they are not sure what they are - could be entirely benign as MRI is so sensitive so have to wait now for another ultrasound appt to see if need another biopsy.  Results of that will determine lumpectomy or mastectomy and if I need chemo will depend on clear margins and sentinal node biopsy result.  My HER2 was back and I am negative which is great.  Just back to waiting again.

  • Really pleased about your good news-hope your feeling much better now and can wait final details of treatment plan x

  • Chemo has me a little anxious too, when do you start. I start on the 20th. Do you know what type of chemo your getting x

  • I don't know what I'm getting yet.  I got an MRI last week and get the results of that next week.  I wasn't expecting having to go back to clinic for results so am having a slight panic now thinking its worse than they thought.

Dont see oncologist for a few weeks yet.

All this waiting is so hard and draining on your mental health.   Does everyone else think this too?

How many cycles of chemo are you getting? I'm sure everyone feels anxious before it.  Just have to remember its the only way forward and there are loads of people in the same boat.  This time next year all of this will be like a bad dream!

  • I've been back and forward too, my nurse speacialist told me that the mri is more to check size of lump, and anything in other breast, but it wouldn't change my treatment plan. I have a cyst on other breast, and said wanted to take another biopsy and add another marker in my lymph nodes. I'm having 9 rounds of chemo (one drug for 4 then another for 5-then injections of a targeted drug for a year after-I'm also having an auxiliary clearance surgery for lymph nodes too.

your oncology appointment they will go through everything with you- mine was really good. He went through all treatment plan. Chemo, it was really positive and reassuring (well as much as anything with cancer can be of course).

the waiting is most definitely the worst-I was I'll waiting for my ct results to see if spread-thankfully it was clear.

  • Hi marilynjane. I hope you’re doing okay.
Was yours invasive? And can i ask if you had surgery before or after chemo.
    thankyou
