Getting that hard news

I had surgery three weeks ago and have just had the results to confirm that the 8mm area they removed from my left breast was grade 1 tubular carcinoma. I am trying to remain positive in that it was small, grade 1 and of the type that rarely spreads. I have been told I will need radiotherapy so hopefully I will meet with the oncologist in the next two weeks to understand what that will entail. It is oestrogen sensitive so have had to stop my HRT so am dreading the return of the menopausal symptoms on top of dealing with the radiotherapy and ongoing worry of it all.

  • They changed the radiotherapy around 2 years ago I thibk it used to be 6 weeks but they have now found after research that 5 days is enough I can't remember the name of the research they did I hope a moderators here could send us the link for you to see

    5 days was easy peasy

Yes lovely to chat please come back if you need me in here love Lara ️

  • Your story reflects my journey so far.  I was diagnosed in January,  lumpectomy in Feb with 8 mm lesion, hormone sensitive and clear nodes.  I am also awaiting radiotherapy  and will need hormone blockers for 5 years.

I was also on hrt and had been for about 13 years.  I am now 56.  So that had to be stopped.   However,  I was advised to not stop overnight and to tailor off.  I did this over 3 weeks and was off by the February.    I took half doses for first week,  quarter for the second and alternative days for the 3 week.  I have not had any major menopause relapse.   Yes, I get a hit hot now and then but nothing like before I took hrt.   My nurse team were happy with the outcome.   As am I.   However, I know the hormone treatment will present its own set of menopausal symptoms but I can't comment on that yet.

What has really go to me though, is the lack of support for ex hrt users who have to give it up.  All I read about in magazines and TV is how wonderful hrt is.  It makes the discontinuation harder to accept.

  • That's great that you've not had any major relapse of menopause symptoms, I'll try tapering off, the stopping overnight did seem a tad brutal!

thank you so much for sharing your story xx
