Waiting for radiotherapy to begin

Waiting for radiotherapy to begin. Any tips?

  • Hiya,

Starting radiotherapy does feel daunting but I always found the staff to be very caring and they are happy to explain everything to you. Always ask about anything you don't understand. Better to know what's what than leave still wondering!!

Well I would advise you to always stay really hydrated. Drink lots of water before you go and when you finish sessions.
Buy a decent body moisturiser. I used Nivea in the dark blue tub. Simple and cheap. It worked for me. No burn!!! I think lots of people also swear by Aveeno. It's just down to personal taste.

I think also be kind to yourself throughout the sessions. I got very tired the second week but I made sure I rested when I could. To be fair though I felt well throughout apart from the tiredness. I hope you do too.

Try and stay as calm as you can throughout. This is a big step forwards. Getting the treatment you need!! I wish you well of course.

  • Got an appointment with oncologist for 24/4. Hopefully an mri and tattoo before then? It's waiting and not being able to plan is the worst.

My daughter is due to have her baby in May!!
Lots worse than me I know.

  • I am just wondering how long people are having to wait for radiotherapy? I have just has a re excision.  If I get clear margins this time it may be my next step.  My results appointment is scheduled for 7 weeks after my surgery ( a fortnight ago) it all feels like it is never ending ...

  • Hi

I got diagnosed in Jan and had surgery in Feb . Two weeks before my daughter gave birth to my beautiful granddaughter. Not the best timing but it has helped me focus my mind on something more positive.  I do hope it will be the same for you

I am now waiting to start radiation therapy in 2 weeks. Planning session done .I have Aveeno on prescription now - as advised by the hospital physio. Also have the letrozole meds but haven't taken them yet . Thinking  I might wait until after physio to start them .

    Any advice?
