Breast cancer warrior - here to help anybody with concerns

I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer in October 2021.  Following a mastectomy, lymph node clearance, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone blockers and CDK 4/6 inhibitors (the last couple of which I'm still on) I'm feeling healthy and positive.

I'm here to answer any questions and support anyone who may need a friend.

  • Thank you for kind reply.

I do so hope that my fears are unfounded.  I have been preparing for it as best as I can, for example:  reading up on good nutrition diet tips, supplements, massage therapy and of course, exercise.  Luckily I have continued to do long daily walks since lockdown, so I just need to remind myself that the walking  will definately help.

I work from home, so no excuse to sit all day, will need to get up and move a lot more to ease off the aches and pains.  Even if that's a quick dance around the room.

  • Hiya  , I had a lumpectomy back in June last year and I'm still having alot of painfull flashes and discomfort in my booby and under my armpit where the lymph node was taken out. My booby is still really bumpy and slightly misshapen aswell , is this normal ? Thanks for any responses xxxxx

  • Hello, lovely to meet you Have you raised this with your medical team? Are you still seeing them? Clearly I can't given medical advice but I would say that people I have met do sometimes have after effects.  I have also heard that they remain mishapen after in a lot cases if you don't get reconstructive surgery.

I think you should see your team if only to put your mind at rest

  • Hi Cas

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis but pleased to hear that they seem to have caught it early.

I have very few effects from hormone treatment - just a few hot flushes, some joint pain and a bit of weight gain.  None of it is stopping me living my life though and I know many people the same.  I am 43.

People only ever tend to talk about drugs online when they have something bad to say - it's human nature - so you're probably seeing the worst of the horror stories.

Try not to compare yourself to anyone else - this is your story.  Try them and see.

we will be here to suppor you

  • Hey wow sounds like you had to go through a lot . Can I ask how long did it take for the initial biopsy to come back days/weeks ? I am still waiting on my results.

  •

    Hi Cas,

It sounds as if you are doing all the right things.

It is always well worth keeping up with your daily exercise. Try also not to overlook the post-op exercises you were given - these make a big difference to your long-term mobility.

Do you know when you are likely to start on the aromatase inhibitors?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Had my first round of chemo Monday, all went well, however as much as I am feeling fine now, the anxiety of not knowing when the side effects are going to kick in,is not helping me with sleep,I know everyone's story's and mine are individual, but do you have any idea on roughly how long it takes please? Xx

  • Wow this sounds just like what I am going to have to get through, first round of chemo Monday,my head is all over the place, I've just replied on some else's response I think, so sorry I am a little confused about so much right now and I'm not getting enough sleep due to anxiety, many thanks for reading Lindsay xx

  • Hi Lindsay - what sort of chemo are you on? I've had EC and Paclitaxel so can respond to any question you have about either of those xx
