I'm sure that you're anxious to get your results on Monday.  and I hope that all goes well. On the whole surgeons are reluctant to remove a healthy breast, if there is only a small tumour present.  With people who have a family history, other factors need to be considered. This will include the type of breast cancer, what stage it is at, how aggressive a type it is and how many close family members have had cancer.

I am not a doctor, so cannot be certain. You are perfectly at liberty to discuss your concerns with your surgeon, but in most cases I understand that surgeons will argue that a lumpectomy is just as effective as a mastectomy at preventing the cancer from recurring.

Hi yes we get radiotherapy fir a week and then I've to see if I want to take a hormone tablet ! 

Not sure going wait til my notes come through from hospital and see from there

Can I ask if you had reshaping done at the same time so did the removal of a cancer not make that much of a dent in breast. Or I suppose it depends on where in breast it was. Thanks

With the first bout of cancer, I had a lumpectomy and although it did leave a dent in my breast, it wasn't noticeable when I was dressed, as my bust was large anyway and the dent was on the underside of the breast.

The following year, when I developed a second primary in the same breast, I had a double mastectomy. I have problems with anaesthetic and have already stopped breathing on the operating table, when I had a gallbladder operation. As a consequence, I now have to have fibre-optic intubation for all surgical procedures. I considered that reconstruction was too lengthy an operation for me to undertake, so I have just made do with an assortment of different prostheses for various activities. On the whole, I manage fairly well with these.

Discuss your concerns about this with your consultant. I expect that they will know how much tissue they need to remove in your case and where it is positioned. They can put breast expanders in if needed. You will find it easier on Monday, if you have all of your questions written down, as it is all too easy to forget something important at the time of your consultation.

So so pleased to hear you have the all clear ! Brilliant news. I hoping I am as lucky as you . I still have two weeks to wait for my results . It's been difficult but it's good to read positive stories like yours. They said at my constant it would be radiotherapy and 5 years of leterozole. I have a family history so will take these . Hopefully that's all I will need. I am still struggling with the underarm - how are you ?

thank you ! Couldn't believe it on Friday when they phoned ! Honestly I was over the moon !! Yes they said to me too in the beginning I would get radiotherapy and go on a tablet but once my results came back I was grade 1 literallY the early stages of breast cancer and he was still not sure about the radiotherapy but as am just hit 40 we have five sessions and he given me the option of a tablet but saying I prob won't be if it from ot as my cancer was very early x
