Diagnosed with Breast cancer and going to operation next wee

Story of my life, everything happens so fast! Arrived UK last October, went for my first regular breast screening beginning of January, 2 areas of concerns on MRI. Went for further scans and biopsy afterwards, results came back last week confirmed they are cancer. Grade 2 invasive casanomia nonspecific type er8 pr5 her 2 positive 12mm & 8mm. I was told that I am lucky bx tumor is so small that I won't find it if I haven't gone to the breast screening. Was advised that surgery will be in 4-6 weeks followed by chemo/ radiology.

Before news really sinked in, got a call yesterday that I can have the surgery next week bx a slot just becomes available. Funny thing is, it will be before my birthday that weekend, probably someone high above is gifting me a new life for my birthday.

I'm remaining positive and calm since there's nothing I can do right now. All I hope for is get it over and done with so that I can get back to full speed sooner.

I had 5 sessions of radio in nov all clear now no appointments only once a year check x no chemo required I had the Oncotype test where they send your sample to America and it was a low score no chemo required x ️

  • Blessed, that's good news. Hope I'm as lucky as you.

  • Mable ask about the Oncotype test to me it was a lifesaver it's your tumour that gets sent off not statistics it's based on your sample it's next generation as in some cases Chemo is overused and in my case would have not been beneficial in any way would have done more harm than good x ️

  • Hi Mable I had a 21 mm tumour found by myself just before my mammogram which was negative. I had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiotherapy, now on letrozole for 5 years.
The surgery went well, I had no pain, chemo is tolerable but can be a bit if a rollercoaster and radiotherapy is fine too.
I had invasive ductal cancer grade 3 no lymph node involvement but I had vascular invasion. My oncotype was 35.

I started the journey in September 2021 and finished treatment June 2022.
I am back at work and have been properly since July 2021.

The treatments and care have come so far and I will be forever grateful to all those that cared for me.

I wish you well and reassure you it will be over before you know it, best wishes Andrea xxx

    Hi Mable,

I am sorry to hear that you have had a cancer diagnosis following your first breast screening. It is good to hear that you have caught it early when your tumours were so tiny. You have been very fortunate to get an earlier slot for surgery next week. We all want to get rig of the cancer as quickly as possible, so it sounds as if this will be an extra special birthday present for you (in a strange sort of way)

You are quite right that no amount of worry will change anything and a positive attitude is very helpful, as you travel your cancer ourney.

I hope that your surgery goes well. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    KInd regards,

    Jolamine xx

Hi all, I'm back home from surgery!

For those who is still waiting for surgery day, hope yours is as straight forward as mine.

Registered at 0730, got change and all those pre operation checks between then at 9ish. Taken to theatre around 10-ish, got knocked out, next I know is it's all done which first thing I ask is time, 11:10 and water.

Transfer back to recovery, except feeling a bit chilly and dull, already back to my old self. Doctor came in to explained what's been done.

Offered tea, sandwiches, yoghurt, texted the husband who's been waiting outside that all are done. Went for a wee, wait a bit longer,  to regain my full strength then I off home!

Pain comes back a tad at 1530 hours, as was advised by nurse to take painkillers before I feel it but not wait till it's unbearable. Took 2 x ibuprofen and pain was gone. I even managed to take the dog out, with hubby by my side, for a short walk around the park down the road!

My next appointment will be in a months' time, but I will call the cancer nurse tomorrow to check if I need to go back earlier as I once was told to check in 2 weeks after surgery to get the biopsy results.

So that's it, they've been taken out and hopes that's all that's in there. Fingers crossed.

    Hi Mable,

Thank you for your update. I'm so glad to hear that it all went well for you today and that you're not in too much pain. I hope that you manage to get your pathology results in 2 weeks, as a month is a long time to wait.

I shall be keeping my fingers crossed for you too.
