Cancer Diagnosis Before Biopsy

Hi, found a lump about 5 weeks ago, 1cm x 2cm. Dr said it was a red flag and submitted a rapid referral which resulted in me being at breast clinic on Monday.

i had an examination, then lots of mammograms - think around 8, 4 each side. Then I went through for an ultrasound and the dr said before she started that there where discrepancies on my mammograms which she had to look into.

She took a long time, very through and around 10 screen shots, she showed me where cysts where that she said where normal, and then a chalky mass. She took a biopsy x3 and put a titanium marker in me.

I then was sent back to the waiting room to join my chap, before being called in for discussions about findings. I was told that it was being treated as sinister and that it hadn't spread to my lymphs, that treatment plans would be discussed on my next appt which I should expect to be on weds after my biopsy results are back. My bf then asked directly "are you saying it IS cancer" and she replied "Yes. I am sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear".

I can't stop thinking that prior to biopsy results surely this could be wrong still as can they say for sure at this point?

  • Thanks LilLoops

Good luck for today. I hope all goes well for you and will be thinking of you xx

Typically now my left arm has started aching now! My OH is telling me off for panicking myself for no reason lol! Why do we do this to ourselves?!

On the plus side the oncologist has said I am due to start chemo in the next couple of weeks just waiting for my appointment to discuss start date etc.

I think I will be telling the kids something similar when time vomes to start treatment. On the pkus side although my chemo will last for 12 weeks its only 6 infusions whih is good. Then onto surgery and radio. Just waiting for genetic results (my mum had ovarian cancer) and to see how my body deals with the chemo before they tell me which surgery I will have.

Hopefully I will be able to return to work in between chemo and surgery fingers crossed.

Hope everyone else is also doing ok

    Xx

  • I was told that I would feel better once I actually started what initially was my biggest fear second to dying (yes, yes, my brain went full out drama queen, shiny crown, the works),

and I thought "no chance". I just wanted to to get angry enough for it to just go away haha. Of course, that ain't gonna happen.

Well, I shall eat my words. One day after chemo, so of course side effects can come on after now, but I feel like the first trimester of pregnancy... internal all consumbing tiredness on and off, and nausea. A bit heavy limbed and headed but no worse than the drain and symptoms of those gruelling pregnancy days so far. It's ***, but its not as *** at all as I had tortured myself to believe so far.

Big hugs, whether you feel like you can do this or not, you will do it, and it will one day be a memory to tell your kids about something else there Mama dealt with so yes they can bloody tidy their rooms without an eye roll ;)

    Keep us posted x

  • Hi Lilloops,

sorry for delay in responding just seen this in my mentions when i logged on.

Today is D day for me - i find out tonight the results of my lunpectomy and treatment. Im terrified. i feel like im waiting to be rediagnosed again.

thank you for all your support.
    how are you getting on?
    xx

  • Once you have your treatment plan you will feel so much better! I know it doesn't feel like it now.

The best advice I was given by a lovely lady on here, was don't get obsessed with the stage and grade, just focus on it being treatable.

Fingers, toes and everything crossed for you xx

  • Thanks hun xx

how are you feeling after your first chemo - still doing ok?

Did you use the cold cap in the end and if so was it ok? xx

  • I was ok, my side effects have been nausea and totally wiped out. I did have a massive energy surge the following day and even worked out for 45 mins, cleaned the house and had a soak in the bath, then crashed again and haven't left my bed yesterday haha.

Mentally I am in a good place now considering all this craziness :)

The cold cap is again doable but I took 2 paracetamol half an hour before, and wrapped up in a blanket and took a pre filled hotbwater bottle. If you can make it through the first 10-15 moins then its ok, the first bit is the tricky part.
