My mum has just been diagnosed with breast cancer

I'm 20 years old and just needed a bit of advice as I'm struggling with the fact my mum has breast cancer. She is keeping so positive and I'm trying but I'm struggling.
I'm currently employed but I'm really struggling to go to work because all I want to do is spend time with my mum so I can process it all and spend as much time with her and help her as much as I can and my dad and sister. But I don't know what to do.
I feel like when mum has her op that I'm not going to be able to work but am I stupid to have time off while she's going through this? Because I know how long everything takes.
I work in a nursery so my phone is in my bag at all times so I am just constantly worried and my anxiety has gone so bad because I'm just worrying about my mum & family.
Thank you & sorry for Rambling.

  • Hi Jade, so sorry about your mum.  What stage is the cancer and what is the treatment plan for your mum?  It is entirely natural to worry about those we love when they become ill and as soon as we hear the 'C' word, we tend to panic.  Jade, is it possible that if you are struggling with work at the moment that you could ask for some compassionate leave to be with your mum?  When I found out that my mum had cancer, I took compassionate leave from my job so that I could take care of her.  This is just a suggestion which you might want to consider.  You have had a big shock Jade and it will take some time to process the news about your mum, but you will find the strength to get through this, good luck to you and your mum, Violet, xx
