Scared about mums diagnosis

My mum has been diagnosed secondary breast cancer at 71 spread to bones, rib and lungs .. we are all devastated and terrified what will happen

is there anyone out there who is in their 70's and had the same ?  My mum says she doesn't want chemo .. as doesn't want to loose her hair again .
is there a chance and hope that she could be managed and controlled for a few years? Feel like my world has ended

  • Not the news anyone wants to hear, sending hugs.

I'm sorry I don't have anything massively positive to say but my Aunt is in her 80's ( otherwise fit and healthy ) and was told she had terminal cancer two years ago ( also bones, ribs, lungs ) and the hospital did not treat her cancers but gave her medications to help the pain, she has defied the odds time-wise but it's been a slow and horrible decline rather than "managed and controlled"

I know where you're coming from and I can imagine it's devastating to hear someone doesn't want treatment but you must respect your Mum's wishes, I'm sure it's not just about the hair loss, chemo is tough to go through.

That said,  there may well  be other options available other than chemo and it's best to speak to the specialist team looking after your Mum to find an option that she is happy with and one that will give her the best quality of life which I'm sure you all want for her while living with this horrible disease.

    Best of luck

  • Hi

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis. My mum has just been diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to her liver. I am devastated too and feel very scared and not sure what will happen.

I'm sorry I don't have much advice but I wanted you to know you're not alone.
