CBD oil and carcinoma

I've been diagnosed with stage 3 carcinoma. 3 rounds of chemo have "put a lid on it" (the spread) but oncologist has stopped further chemo and has passed me to radiotherapy. I've been told it is incurable.

Has anyone any information with regards to the risk and/or benefits of CBD oil? I have obviously read that some individuals have benefitted from its use but there are also risks that it could accelerate the cell replication and make things worse. Does anyone have any personal stories perhaps? Or close friends that have tried it?

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere but first time post and not used to the forum.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Matt0110,

Welcome to Cancer Chat - and I'm sorry to hear of your situation.

We have various information on our website about CBD oil and cancer so please have a look. For further reading we also have a blog looking at the evidence so far.

Please discuss this with your doctor/specialist too. They are always the ones who are best placed to advise about any potential adverse effects.

You are also welcome to give our nurses a call if you'd like to ask any questions or talk things through. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Thanks for the reply and links. This is something I've not put a great deal of thought into, or research. But numerous friends have made the suggestion which I've been quick to dismiss. I've never taken a drug in my life and despite this not being a "drug" I'm still a bit reluctant to go down this route. But chemo hasn't shrunk anything, merely stopped it spreading. Now chemo has stopped (I was due to start round 3 Tuesday just gone) and with radio not starting until back end of this month, I'm in a kind of no-man's-land situation. It's just another option I'm looking at that's all, so all information is appreciated.

  • Hi Matt , CBD oil is mainly a painkiller mainly although it can help with sleeping and a few other things, I've used it for rumatics in knees and it really helps better than injection of steroids by Dr Only take when neaded.

Im on palative care for cancer and it made no difference i was diagnosed Feb 2016 and still kicking and positive I've prostate cancer gone to lymph nodes spine ribs pelvis and a lung .

Probably others will speak to you with more information .

  • Thanks Billy. I'm not suffering any pain at all so if that's all it does - pain relief - then it might not be worth it. I'm just gauging risk and reward as much as possible. Especially that chemo hasn't worked.

  • Hi Matt

If chemo has stopped and you are looking for alternatives to standard care, I recommend Care Oncology who are based in London. They prescribe off label drugs that have been shown via many medical papers, to help fight cancers. Worth a look if nothing else. I'm registered with them and am prescribed four basic drugs that are usually for other ailments, but have cancer fighting properties. Easily found via a Google search.

    Best of luck to you.
