Just been diagnosed with lymphoma

Hi, I've recently been diagnosed with lymphoma , I'm in total shock, I lost my mum to lung cancer just over 4years ago, 5 days before Christmas. It's been difficult since her death.

I been told the cancer I have is treatable but not curable . I'm so confused I also have 5 year old twins and work part-time. My husband works full-time , I just don't know what I'm going to do when I have to have treatment, I'm worried about my husband and children how are they going to cope with me being sick, also financially ........ my head is just spinning with worry

  • Just wanted to say Hi.
I've just joined this group after being diagnosed with lymphoma on 13/4. I too am a married mum of 3 who works part time so it sounds like we have a lot in common at the moment.
I haven't told my children yet as am waiting until I have more information from my haematology appointment on Tuesday. I still can't quite believe the news, it's like a nightmare but it's real. I know I need to be strong and get my positive big girl pants on but at the moment it's so hard as I don't fully understand myself what I'm dealing with. I can't even cry properly as I don't want my children to worry.
We've got a tough road ahead but we've got to believe we can do this. I need more information but also am scared to read too much.

This post is probably not much help except to say you are not alone, I'm sorry you are going through this but perhaps we can support each other.

  • Hi thank you for your reply,

Well after a week of finding out I have Cancer , I feel more at ease , I now know what kind of cancer it is ( follicular), I've also had a chat with one of the MacMillan nurses that will be taking care of me when I need my treatment.

The Nurse explained and reassured me that the lymphoma I have is low grade and treatable, I'm now staying positive, I have now told all my family and people at work about THE BEASTIE that's trying to get in the way of my normal life .

Im just going to except this as a Bump in the road , and I'm sure as hell going to get over this.

All I want is to be feeling better in myself, because the last few years my GP has not been listening to me, I've been told it's fibromyalgia!! And given Doloxatine, then was told I was Going through Menopause, was given HRT for the night sweats, but thankfully for my ENT consultant who sent me for MRI and for a neck biopsy the problem was found, and I'm so great full.

I know it's going to be hard for us from now on, but stay strong ,MacMillan nurse's are so lovely and helpful, there is so much help for us out there.

    Stay strong BIG HUGS

  • Great to hear your appointment went well and that it's treatable and low grade. It's a shock to begin with but with determination and bravery which it sounds like you've got bucket loads of, you will do this. As you say, just a bump in the road.

Would love to hear your progress so please stay in touch x

  • Hi, I hope your well and know more about your lymphoma,

just a update on my journey, after having my bloods and PET scan I meet my constant today ... I will start chemotherapy in 2 weeks time I will have 8 cycles, and will be signed off work for 4-6 months.

Take care in your journey stay strong x

  • Hi,

thanks for the update. How are you feeling about things?

Saw my consultant last week. He thinks probably stage 2E and 4 rounds of chemo followed by radiation treatment. He's signed me off for 6 months. Have an appointment for 5th and 19th for my first round. Although don't have my pet scan results back so could all change. Have another appointment next Tuesday with consultant so will know more then.

I hope you're feeling more positive about things now there's a plan in place? I have ups and downs, bit worried about the chemo but just got to get on with it.

    Good luck with everything xxx

  • Hello both of you, I hope you're getting on ok, I wondered if I could ask what symptoms you had leading up to your diagnosis and also what tests you had to diagnose?

    thank you

    mrs mac xx

  • Hi,

I had swollen lymph nodes in my neck and a lump on my thyroid. Felt fine on the whole, just a mild sore throat due to the lump on my thyroid and headaches which don't seem to be a recognised symptom.

    Hope this helps x

  • Hi, hope your well,

my symptoms have been constantly feeling off with colds and sore throat, hot sweats day and night, and being tierd. I then had noticed bulging lumps in the top of my thighs , my cancer was only spotted by chance thanks to ENT doing a biopsy on my thighs !! My GP has been completely useless, was told I had Depression, then Fibromyalgia and then told I was going through the menopause.

Hope this of help to you

    take care x

  • Hi,

They staged mine at 4 as it had spread to mediastinal area although not too badly. Started my chemo on 5th so back again on 19th. 6 rounds of ABVD. Felt absolutely fine after first one, the steroid infusion beforehand made me feel great. No hair loss but fear it might happen after this weeks session.

Try not to worry about the chemo, I felt really anxious beforehand but it was ok (so far anyway) How many rounds are you having?

Im going to a workshop tomorrow run by maggies called look good feel better, gives tips on hair, make up etc for chemo patients.

Good luck and let me know how you get on xx
