Advice regarding wigs!

Hello, wanting any help regarding wigs please, I have recently undergone right mastectomy followed by full axillary clearance, I have been told I will need some chemo & radiotherapy as preventative, I have my scan on Wednesday then presume will see an oncologist afterwards, should I start sourcing wigs now or wait till I’ve seen the oncologist and see what type of chemo etc, not looking forward to the chemo at all but want to be prepared, any info/advice would be much appreciated

  • Hi Halley.  Speak to your nurse and they will give you some really good advice about wigs and scarves and hats.  I lost all of my hair and I bought my own wig for 25 pounds which looked exactly like my own hair.  I refused the cold cap treatment becaue other people I spoke to who had had it said that it didn't stop their hair falling out, but of course the decision must  be yours.  Also Halley, I was very worried about the chemo, but honestly, it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be.  Good luck, xx

  • Thank you for your lovely reply! Hopefully see oncologist soon and speak to a nurse, think it's the fear of the unknown,I'm currently fit & healthy even after 2 surgeries and dread feeling awful and being laid up as well as the losing hair side of it, I'm in the mindset now of let's get on with it, sooner I start sooner it's finished, thanks again
