How much do you find out at diagnosis?

I have an appointment tomorrow following having biopsies (breast) taken last week. I'm keeping everything crossed that it goes ok but the radiographer did warm me that he was very concerned about a lump so I'm not overly hopeful. Anyway, can anyone tell me what exactly you find out at diagnosis? Are they able to tell you straightaway the course of treatment and when either it or surgery will happen or is it much slower than that? Any questions that I should be asking would also be very welcome. I'm a bag of nerves!! Thank you.

  • Hi Sarah,

No, it's not oestrogen fed. I wasn't told a stage at the appointment, only that it's grade 2. I'm guessing I'll get lots more detail at my appointment next week.

Really struggled with the MRI yesterday, think it started to hit me and I just felt a whole range of emotions. I've got the CT tomorrow and I think it's the results from that that I'm worrying about most. There was no reason to think that it had spread but I'm just terrified that they'll find it in lots of other places! Need to keep reminding myself that the consultant said that it was early stage breast cancer and not let me mind run away with itself!

How are you finding the chemo? Hope it's not too awful.

I'm really struggling with being very hungry all the time at the moment but not being able to put on any weight. I'm sure there's a lot of anxiety in my body at the moment but it's just so annoying as im waking in the night needing to eat!

Anyway, I hope you're doing ok and thanks again for your messages.

    xx

  • Hi Daisy,

I hope your CT was okay today. The hard thing about scans and any hospital appointments it makes things very real,, You hopefully won't have too have them again, it's good that it's early stages.

at your appointment next week you will be given all the facts and everything will be on the table, so they will be able to tell you what treatment you will have and you can start too move forward and get it gone.

It will be a long journey ahead with plenty of ups and downs and dark days, take each day as it comes, trust your team, they will look after you.

I found speaking to my Breast Care Nurse a real help.

Let me know how you get on next week! You've got this!  You will be fine.

    Lots of love Sarah

Ps don't be scared of Chemo it's not as bad as you think xxx
